ABOUT ME

My wife Amy and I love being outside, meeting new people, and learning about different places. We are easy going and get along with just about anyone. We run a non-profit organization called the Wilderness Classroom, which works to improve the basic academic skills of elementary and middle school students and introduce them to wild places and different cultures.

We are currently in the middle of a 3 year, 11,700 mile journey by canoe, kayak, and dogsled across North America. We starting on Earth Day 2010 in Bellingham Washington, kayaked up the inside passage to Alaska and then hiked, canoed, and dogsledded down to Lake Superior. We are currently kayaking from Lake Superior to Key West Florida. As we paddle down the East Coast we hope to use Couch Surfer as a way to meet new people and find places to stay in more urban areas.

Interests

Anything outdoors, camping, canoeing, kayaking, dogsledding, fishing, etc.

Amy is an artist and especially loves pottery.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with Pink River Dolphins in the Amazon Rainforest and kayaking with Humpback Whales in Alaska are two of our favorite animal encounters. We also experienced a massive forest fire in Northern Canada from a about a mile a way, which left us blown away by the raw power of nature.

Visiting remote First Nation Communities in the North West Territories by dogsled and giving local kids dogsled rides.
