About Me

Hello I'm David,
I'm 21 years old, and currently living in Columbus Ohio to attend The Ohio State University for Welding Engineering. I grew up in Minnesota, and got a degree in welding there before I moved to Ohio. I'm a nontraditional student, and sort of a nontraditional person in general, just breaking my own trails to places I want to go and do things I want to do. I'm somewhat shy, but always friendly. I'm an INFJ if any of you are interested, I make tons of my friends take the test for fun =) I'm pretty flexible and easy going, hard working and dedicated to what I put my mind to.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I decided I needed a change of pace in my life. I've been working full time and going to college nearly full time as well and I've been so busy for so long that I'm going out of my mind. It's time to take some time away from the things and give myself an opportunity to smell the roses for a change, and get back to doing some of the things I love but haven't had time for lately. I'm taking a little time off school to establish residency so I can afford my education, and I quit my job to find something else that I find more stimulating. Before I get too tied down with a new job, I wanted to do a bit of traveling! I'm planning a coast to coast hitchhiking trip, and if could make some connections for soft spots to land along the way, the hospitality would be greatly appreciated. I want to catalog my trip with photos and interviews of all the people I meet along the way helping me make this trip possible, and I'd love to add hosts to that list =)

UPDATE: completed my coast to coast hitch hiking trip.

Interests

I'm very curious by nature, and I'm always picking up new interests and hobbies. I'm a craftsman and love wood working and metal working. I have a passion for mechanics and have begun collecting gear boxes and engine parts to take apart in my free time to study. I really enjoy personality types and trying to understand others around me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I have a really long list of music. I'm a writer so I think I can appreciate nearly anything that is well made either musically or lyrically. Not a big fan of country or club music, but most other genres I enjoy.

Movies: Mud, Interstellar, Martian, Book of Eli, District 9, Short Term 12, Mr. Nobody. I like a lot of indy movies, and movies with strong underlying themes.

Books: Harry Potter of course. I read the Lord of the Rings as well, but I found Tolkiens writing to be a bit drawn out, as amazing as that story is. Honestly not a big reader, I used to be, but it's been quite awhile since I've done any leisure reading. I read quite a bit online to learn to do new things though.

Teach, Learn, Share

Absolutely. Teach me something while I'm passing through and I'd be happy to try to teach you something too. I love that kind of thing. Open sourcing and being generous with the knowledge we have is such a benefit to everyone.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd be happy to help out wherever I end up! Cooking a meal or doing the dishes after, taking out the trash, whatever I can do to help repay the hospitality I'm being offered.

Maybe more importantly though, I can share a good experience, and create a new friendship. I'm trustworthy, kind, and respectful. I'd be a guest you could have peace of mind about, and I'll do what I can to be minimally intrusive, and leave your homestead as tidy and clean as it was when I arrived.
