About Me

Hey my name is David Castine and although I am a full time student, I am currently taking a year off to fulfill my dreams of travelling. I've lived all 19 years of my life here in rural Australia and have recently finished my high school education. I hope to study at university next year, possibly as an engineer, but I am still not entirely sure what I want to do with my future. In the meantime, I hope to see as much of the world as I can. So this year a friend and myself are embarking on a 4 month trip to Europe and South America.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ever since a family vacation to Europe and the UK in 2014, my main ambition has been to see the world and experience as many different cultures as I can. But unfortunately like most young people, money is an issue. So to do this I'm going to need the help of fellow travelers like yourself to hopefully put a roof over my head, but more importantly, to show me a true cultural and meaningful experience. I don't see Couchsurfing as a means of free accommodation, I see it as a way to meet new, interesting people and hopefully make a friend or two along the way.

Interests

My interests include:
- Travelling, of course.
- Languages
- Sports, Australian Football, Tennis, Golf
- New experiences and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like all types of movies to be honest, but lately I've taken a liking to gangster/mobster films such as The Departed, American Gangster and Reservoir Dogs.

Some of my favorite books include The Hobbit and George Orwell's 1984. I'm really into the classics but I only wish I could find more time for it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Growing up in Australia, I've found a passion for AFL (Australian Football League). I actually play for a local club and have won numerous premierships with them, even whilst overcoming injury. I have a great love for the sport, and I consider it as one of my greatest achievements.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach, Learn, Share. Well at this age I've probably got more to learn than teach which is the reason for my trip, and when it comes to new ideas and experiences, I'm all ears. Everyone has a story though so if you're interested I could hopefully share mine with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully I can bring a bit of Australian culture over with me as well as sharing a few laughs and maybe a few beers.

I wish I could host myself, but at the moment I'm living with my Mum and sister and our schedules are quite chaotic. But after my trip I intend to start hosting guests as I will have more time off work.
