Overview
About Me
Currently back in Indonesia after spanish mackerel season (saya bekerja sebagai nelayan di Australia, cari ikan tenggiri besar!); keen to have some good times before heading back out to sea! Still have about ~1 month left on the visa... Thinking of visiting lombok/nusapenida/sumbawa/jawa timur.... Belum ada rencana pas... Pretty much just looking to ngongkrong bersama orang lokal sambil praktek bahasa indo haha!
I'm very easy going; some may even go as far as to say that I'm "so chillll maaaan", for whatever that's worth.
My simple needs are easily met, much like a cactus and/or neglected houseplant. Maybe a little water and perhaps some floor space (I'm actually not too keen on couch sleeping, despite the name of this site, haha), and then I'm good to go. I don't really eat often, except for those times when I do, in which case, anything is quite literally on the table/floor (fermented durian sambal, goat brain curry, sago grubs... tidak apa apa!) No silverware? No problem. I pakai tangan with gusto whenever possible.
Beyond all that, I'm very open to new experiences (so cliché, I know...), and greatly enjoy the times in which I wind up in completely unforseen situations and circumstances, often with friends I've only just met. If this is the substance of memories, then surely the mundane and routine are that of amnesia.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Seems like a cool way to see firsthand how people from different backgrounds live in other regions/countries. Also, am travelling solo at the moment so... friends are always appreciated!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once, in an act of self induced poverty, cut myself off from my own funds, to live in nomadic solidarity amongst hobos, vagrants, squatters and other comparatively disadvantaged peoples, as some sort of lousy gonzo-anthropologist. Eventually the 'study' sort of backfired, when the lifestyle became decidedly involuntary for a time, haha...
Another time, I spontaneously decided to book a same-day flight to Hawaii, where I proceeded to lead a somewhat precarious beach-urchin existence for the better part of two years or so...
I've also designed an as of yet to be implemented marine aquarium system with simulated tidal cycles + self-sustaining phytoplankton cultures, which should be pretty sick if/when I ever have the space and funds to build it.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well, obviously I speak English, and my Bahasa skills are shaping up nicely (maybe I can speak/understand at the level of... a 3 or 4 year old native speaker?? Not sure if that's being too generous, or selling myself short; more likely the former of the two, haha), so in that regard, it's possible that I could be of some help, if needed, in demystifying some of the (so many) confusing aspects of the English language. That goes both ways, too, as learning Indonesian is in fact one of the main reasons I'm here in this part of the world. My pronunciation could use some work (want to sound less bule), and maybe picking up some cool slang/'bahasa gaul' couldn't hurt either, heheh...
More generally, I'm always keen to learn more about how life goes in new places/cities, especially when it comes to local food+drink. Beyond cities, I'm also very interested in learning more about working with + making things from natural materials (rattan, bamboo, thatch etc...) and by extension, golok/parang techniques (the ultimate tool!!); I guess what you could call "jungle skills" haha... Kehidupan di hutan!
What I Can Share with Hosts
-I can cook some pretty interesting and/or enak foods from around the world (currently somewhat obsessed with Kiwi/Maori cuisine + Polynesian food in general... also Filipino).
-Vaguely amusing stories of my travel exploits
-Guest drummer for your band??
-Can certainly help out around the house with anything, if need be
-I don't really tell jokes, but some people seem to think that I'm some sort of 'funny guy' or something heheh...
