Sobre mí

I've taken a year off my career. I love it, but I love seeing the world and meeting people more. As my world shrunk to the size of the public hospital in which I spent most of my working days, I came to realise that I longed to meet strangers, hear their story, their perspective, share mine and learn more about life. I have many things I want to accomplish - to master as many of the worlds languages as I can (which means I have to talk to people who speak those languages!), to play the piano such that I can express myself through it (I really love the piano), to write something more meaningful than papers on obscure genetic bacterial resistance determinants.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

To meet all those many interesting people in the world that have lived different lives to me, that have something to share. To gain an inherent trust in others - it is no small responsibility to entrust one's home to a stranger, and I hope that when I stay in someone's house I show them due respect.

Intereses

I love to read - my go to on a quiet day is "One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich", though I also pick out all of the flaws in LOTR and Hobbit movies.
I love music -
Learning about people, their lives, the things that dictate why we do things.

Música, películas y libros

I was brought up on a diet of classical music (thanks to mum - who played the piano back in Belarus) and psychadelic 70's bullshit (thanks to dad - who... took a lot of drugs it seems).

Of classical music (Chopin's piano sonatas/nocturnes, Scarlatti's piano sonatas, everything Rachmaninov)...

In recent times, it's all emotional rock ballads - X Japan oh yeah. I could took for months about music.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Improvise a makeshift airway from a feeding tube to keep a kid breathing whilst they were in status epileptics from cerebral malaria.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach you: English, Russian. To play the piano (if you're worse than me) or guitar. What being a doctor is about. An appreciation of chocolate, I eat a s***load of it.

Please teach me: Japanese, Spanish (Russian - if you're better than me, mine's pretty rusty).

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Insightful and long-winded conversation, courtesy, cleanliness, respect and a keen interest in your life and mind. Music appreciation. When I travel I like to hear music, eat well, wander the city, buy stupid shit that nobody needs.
