About Me

instagram: mdelillieau70

G'day! M'name's Marsh, first name David, and I have no idea what I would like to do with my life. I've told people before that I want to work fifty different types of jobs - from being the president of the United States to being a male stripper - but I'm only at three so far (worked two different restaurant jobs; worked as a baker; worked on the work crew at a Christian summer camp). People know me as a spontaneous, unstoppable (/stubborn), word-drunk, paradoxical and ever-so-slightly-warm individual who values (foremost) empathy, curiosity, and communication. If not anything else, I live for good conversation and make do with the moments in between.

I'm traveling nowadays in search of questions and answers; for the latter, I'm trying to figure out my relationship with god, myself, and others, and for the former - well, I always love a good question.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am trying to spend 3-4 months exploring Eastern Europe this summer, especially Romanian, where I wish to become fluent in the Romanian language. As I'm a student and don't currently have a paying job, I am trying to travel as cheaply as possible. I suppose I'd also like to make friends around the world, and think that staying with different hosts could help me achieve this goal.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Bon Iver's first three albums, David Gray, Sleater-Kinney, Mumford & Sons; I like a lot of folk and punk rock music. I also make music and especially like to play Country & Blues-esque music, and like the idea of bringing these styles to other countries.
Movies - Andrei Rublev, Megalopolis, Clueless, SteaK, Magic Mike, Sing Street, Breakfast at Tiffany's
Books - The Manuscript Found in Saragossa (by Jan Potocki), Mason & Dixon (Thomas Pynchon), The Brothers Karamazov (Fyodor Dostoevsky), Tropic of Cancer (Henry Miller), East of Eden (John Steinbeck).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My New Year's Resolution was to have a conversation with a new person every day of 2025 and, to date, I have succeeded at this goal, and as somebody who has struggled in the past with a lack of social confidence, I find this amazing (relative to myself).

Teach, Learn, Share

There are perhaps only a few things that I feel like I could teach - English, mathematics, video game development (I have finished 9 games, and will hopefully have finished another two by the time I set off on my travels), writing, knitting, and music (I play the guitar and write songs sometimes, and also am learning to play the fiddle and piano).

I'm traveling for, primarily, three reasons - to learn the Romanian language, to learn about Romanian culture and history, and to hear the stories and learn from the people of this country (as well as of any of the other countries that I travel to). Beyond that, I'm always interested in learning from those around me, whatever that may be. I would like to be as versatile an individual as I can, so whether it be plumbing or handicrafts, I am compelled to learn whatever you would like to teach me.

I would love to share my games, stories, plays, music as well as those of my friends, and whatever I can of my cultural and personal history. I collect the stories of those I talk to and would be happy to share with you some of the wild things that (anonymous, to you anyhow) people have told me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I play music, I sing, I love telling stories, I love to cook and would be willing to help out with cooking and cleaning around the house.
