About Me

desperately seeking: someone to teach me how play this harmonica, stick-and-poke tattoo ideas

CURRENTLY on COUCHSURFING to: meet folx in the greater Southeast area, when my partner and I meander out of our home-base in Asheville, NC

Long-term goal: establish a long-term vegan housing co-operative in Asheville, NC, grow 90% of my own food, guerrilla garden across WNC, keep bees, become an underground stick&poke legend, go radical

The Past: I spent five years working at a Quaker Summer Camp (Camp Celo), studied abroad in Germany, France and Israel before dropping out of college, then spent a year and a half working at the Arthur Morgan School, an alternative boarding school for 7th through 9th graders in Burnsville, NC.

I quit that job and; wwoofed and; hitchiked and; visited co-ops on the west coast, traveling partly-timely with a dear friend, Micah James. I tried hitching all the way back to NC for a graduation, but ended up traveling by an aberrant combination of greyhound, craigslist ride-share, and;, finally, when my credit card failed to successfully rent me a car, by plane. Which was exhausting. And expensive.

Summer of 2019: wwoofed in Maine with my AWESOME partner Annie; stayed, most nights, in a cloud of mosquitoes and; spending most days up to our eyeballs in dirt. Visited Canada for the first time, and Glen Arbor Michigan (like, great lakes are the ocean, but prettier, tastier, and less visibly full of fish guts)

Present: I teach aftercare at the Asheville Waldorf School; ask me about that, at your peril, for I will complain about it. My partner and I co-founded a non-hierarchical housing collective in Asheville, NC in September of 2019. I spend a lot of my free time trying to keep it running, the rest of that free-time throwing myself at activists, begging them to let me help them do stuff.

excited by: bees, dumpster-diving, stick&pokes, kale, community, digging holes, the sun

loves: couches, your dog, sleeping on a couch with your dog, etc

hates: hate, ticks,

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I couchsurfed while I studied abroad in Europe, & it was probably the most fun I had--period--while overseas.

Most blessed Couchsurfing experience: was hitchhiking North out of Central Cali & had gotten stranded in San Luis Obispo ; used Couchsurfing to find a new friend to stay with that very night, dumpster dived with them, & then stayed up late talking after we had reorganized their cupboard to accommodate all our dumpster goodies, and I got, praise be, take a shower. Mmmmm. So nice.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

2018: I co-led (with three other adults) an 18 day field trip to Florida for 12 students from the Arthur Morgan School. We stayed at Quaker meetings, with alumnx, & with sundry friends of the school (it was like couchsurfing, but for Middle Schoolers!)

We spent an obscene amount of time together in a Ford 15 passenger transit van, ate horrible Chinese food, collected city stickers, accidentally splashed all of the water out of a hot-tub, discovered the absolute human capacity for dum-dum consumption (it's the amount that'll fit in your mouth all at once), locked some of our number in a trailer (subsequently freed them), got kicked off a beach in Miami, liberated cacti & succulents, got awfully sunburned, & learned to hate commuting.

I personally got the "privilege" of being appointed (by the students) the unofficial official trip guidance counselor, & pretty soon all of them were coming to me to help resolve their conflicts--it was wild: there was a love triangle, estranged friends, some pretty nasty attitudes, secret notes passed around, & lot of quoting Weezer.

Great times.
