About Me

I'm an active, outdoorsy, music loving guy who enjoys travelling, reading, hiking and eating food from all cultures. I believe that the only way to truly learn about a city is to live with the locals and have them teach you about the culture and lifestyle.

Music is my passion and I believe that it connects all humans together, whether it be a hauntingly beautiful classical trio in a church, a hyped up EDM rave, or my personal favorite, an intimate conversation between jazz musicians in a smoky club.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The most important reason for which I am on couchsurfing is the connection between the host and the traveller. As I believe the best way to learn about the city is through the people, it is tough for me to truly learn about an area as I often do not know people living in foreign places. For that reason, I hope to get connected to different people through couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, The Bad Plus, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and countless other jazz musicians.

Liszt, Beethoven, Chopin, Bach. I'm a big fan of the romantic era.

Other genres: Indie rock, hip hop and rap, EDM

Movies: Not a huge movie buff but I really enjoy movies like Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump.

Books: Murakami! I'm a big fan of avant-garde and his cute and very fitting musical references.

Big fan of dystopian fiction and classics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Edmonton, there is a youth jazz band run by our local club, the Yardbird Suite, which gives teenagers the opportunity to play in a band above the high school level. In my grade 12 year, we had the opportunity to work with an absolutely amazing trombonist by the name of Allen Jacobson who I had the opportunity to play with at our final concert. Throughout the concert, the intimacy and the ideas traded through our dialogue were focussed and intense and it made me realize how much I had to learn in the realm of music, whether it be technically, conceptually or spiritually.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Music! I love conversing about the intimicies and intricacies of all types of music and the ideas and theory behind them.

Learn: I've just began learning how to draw and sketch, and if someone is patient enough to help me, I'd gladly accept some advice.

As well, I have been introduced to philosophy through some podcasts and a whole new world of information and knowledge has been opened up to me.

Share: For me, part of the fun in reading is the discussion which follows it, whether it be with teachers, family, friends or strangers. The trading and development of ideas is something which is incredibly beautiful.
