About Me

ABOUT ME

Hello! While I live a normal life as a programmer in London, I try to travel as much as I can in my free time. In the long free summers while at university I embarked on solo backpacking trips across Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Since then, I have to fit my travels in with work, which has led to roughly one adventure a year - so far Morocco, California, Egypt and Israel/Palestine.

Last summer I spent two months in Montreal, Quebec for work and at the end of the year was in Vancouver for a couple of weeks, again with work.

This year planned so far - Japan, Finland and Glastonbury!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I signed up after arriving in Canada and wanting to meet new people. I've been to quite a few events and will definitely look into hosting at some point.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm looking to try couch surfing for the first time!

Interests

I'm interested in all kinds of history and politics. I do like sightseeing but most of all enjoy meeting other travellers, and seeing those places you don't read about in guidebooks. That's a massive cliché, I know, but sometimes it happens.

At home in London I train in Karate, go indoor climbing and also run fairly regularly.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love live music, in particular Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros and Muse. I really want to see The National at some point.

My favourite books are The Grapes of Wrath and The Hobbit, and recently I've enjoyed Cloud Atlas and Ghostwritten. I'm currently reading Les Miserables and Lovecraft's short stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not sure if awestruck is the right word for this experience, but I once took a ride in a jeep into the mountains of Azerbaijan, heading for a village that claims to be the highest in europe (even though it isn't really in europe). After a few hours on dusty, bumpy, winding roads we came to a stop, as the section of road ahead had been destroyed by an avalanche, leaving an exposed cliff edge with a massive drop below. There was only one way to go. So out we got on foot, and as I tried to work up the courage to walk along this cliff edge, the driver hands me a massive watermelon and asks me to carry it across for him. In my passively-terrified state I don't even consider refusing, so I took it and started edging along the cliff trying not to look down, but finding it difficult to keep my balance whilst having my backpack on my back and holding a massive watermelon. I remember thinking at that point, if I die now, this will be a very strange way to go, and what will my parents think.

Luckily, I made it over and had an amazing time hiking in the beautiful Caucasus Mountains, and luckily didn't need to carry an oversized piece of fruit when I made my return journey.
