About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find myself, I guess. To make the hard decisions I didn't when I was younger...

ABOUT ME

Affable, clever, creative, insightful, steady, reliable,. I don't think any of my friends would consider me adventurous, but I'm trying to change that. I recently got fed up and left my job, but instead of jumping into another, similar situation, I decided to hit the road and look for a new place I'd like to live; to find a new community (preferably a creative one) that I'd enjoy being a part of. For the first time in my life, I'm really making an effort to be open and accepting of new experiences, to invite changes into my world-- it's both scary and exciting, but that's what makes an adventure, right?

PHILOSOPHY

Epistemologically, I'm a skeptic-- I don't believe you can really know anything beyond the most basic experiences. That being said, I'm pretty Aristotelian Ethically-- I believe that we should live in moderation and that doing so is more a matter of developing good habits than merely knowing what the right thing to do is. Metaphysically, it's not clear to me how anything at all can exist anyway like how it appears. For the most part, my personal philosophy is confused and a work in progress...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a novice, I'm afraid...

Interests

I'm a singer-songwriter, and a big part of my travels are to explore the musical communities in various areas. I've written and recorded a fair share of music over the years, but I've never really made the effort to get it out to masses-- I'd like to change that. I've also written scripts, drawn cartoons, acted in various capacities (often with improv/sketch comedy troupes). I love watching films and exploring new types of music. I can appreciate all types of art, and meeting and getting to know artists can be a fascinating experience-- to understand new perspectives.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge movie buff, my current all-time favorite film being Alfred Hitchcock's "Notorious", but I like seeing all kinds of films, sophisticated, trashy, or otherwise. Music is something I enjoy exploring, but I'm probably most passionate about 50s rock & roll and r&b, 60's soul, 70's punk and funk, and 80's post-punk, grunge, alt.country, anti-folk, and I'm actually kind of into dance-pop right now (don't tell anyone, though). Books: I like non-fiction best. Right now I'm reading "Where the Conflict Really Lies: Science, Religion and Naturalism" by Alvin Plantinga-- I'm an agnostic, but I find religious studies to be fascinating.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Up until now, I haven't been much of a traveler, but I found the Grand Canyon to be pretty inspiring. Usually it's music or film that really gets me going. Right now, I'm really excited about Andrew Bird and I saw a great movie called "Take Shelter" earlier this year which I thought was pretty amazing. I belonged to an art group in Boulder whose members constantly surprised and enthralled me.
