About Me

I'm an artist! Performer, writer type. I'm also a clown and a librarian. I work a lot in the disability arts, putting on shows and helping people access the arts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started hosting in 2008, when I lived near Mount Fuji, Japan. I met and helped many people summit the mountain and enjoy a recovery dinner and Japanese hot bath afterwards.

Since then I have surfed with people in Korea, China, Denmark, and the USA, as well as hosting people in my hometown, Melbourne.

I'm currently travelling in the US and Mexico.

I enjoy CS, with old or new friends, because, in the words of writer Ross Gay, I enjoy a good hang. He means hanging out with no discernible purpose or goal, with no discernible end in sight. Each morning we go out for our daily adventures and we come back to share food and stories. Simple and fulfilling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once woke to the sensation of someone, or something, nibbling on my toes. Turned out it was a baby WOMBAT giving me a foot massage!

Otherwise, there have been too many great experiences to fit them all into this tiny box. When I travel the first thing I want to do is meet good people and find nice food.

Interests

Reading on trains, beaches, outside train stations. Pretty much anywhere I can take a break from my book and take in the scenery. And libraries -- I always end up in libraries.

Basketball. Always down to get some shots up.

Karaoke. As Meatloaf once sang: "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)" I still don't know what "that" is, but I do love karaoke.

Dance! There is nothing left for me to do but dance! Breakdancing etc

Breakfast, whether it be Japanese, European, or a slice of cold pizza shared across the breakfast table after a big party the night before.

Theatre and clown, because there's nothing else like it.

Going, seeing, doing, eating, drinking, meeting... locally. Essentially, a local experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy autobiographic fiction and queer lit, with the occasional graphic novel.

I’ve been getting into anime lately (Death Note, Showa Rakugo Shinju, Cowboy Bebop).

All music... I do sound design for theatre so I’m always looking for new tunes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One lunch-time I saw a Japanese 1st grader turn his bowl of bolognaise sauce into a hat. Hands down, that beats seeing sunrise at the top of Mount Fuji.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy learning things about the mind/body/environment, and the connection between the three. I wouldn't say I'm spiritual, but I do meditate, and can teach other people how to meditate... if they're interested.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, China, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Scotland, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
