About Me

Currently planning a short trip to Kenya where I will cycle around the country for about three weeks. Any tips on routes and things to see are appreciated!

Last year, my girlfriend (Anna) and I set out on one of our biggest adventures to date. In the beginning of March 2018 we started our cycling trip from Sweden to South Africa. We had planned to be out on the road for one and a half years and to cross almost 30 countries. Unfortunately, Anna hurt her knees and we had send our bikes home from Valencia. Instead we proceeded to backpack through West Africa and made it all the way to Benin before flying back to Sweden. Even if we only cycled to Spain, it was still an amazing experience and we are both yearning to get back to Africa. For us, the most interesting part of travelling is to share experiences and to exchange cultural perspectives. And for that, this community is perfect.

I'm from Sweden and I'm a traveler who has traveled by backpacking and hitchhiking but love cycle touring the most. I like the way cycling puts you in direct contact with the local people and natural elements of the countries. It also forces you to explore the world at a slower pace and you often get to visit places where few other foreigners have ever been. Other than the Africa trip mentioned above, I have also cycled from Sweden to Istanbul. It was my first cycle touring trip and I was hooked.

Previously I have also backpacked around the world during 9 months where I visited all the continents. During this trip I mostly traveled by bus or by hitchhiking.

All in all, I like travels to be adventurous and rather wild camp than stay in hostels (even though hostels can be nice once in a while). I am also on couch surfing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing to learn about other cultures and meet people I otherwise would have never gotten the chance to meet. Couchsurfing puts you so much closer to the real culture in every country you visit and enables you to see day-to-day life from their point of view.

Interests

Except for being a fanatic "home traveller" who read loads of travel blogs, I love nature. Whether it's a documentary about life in the deep ocean or just a walk through the local forest, it always thrills my mind. I love the feeling of knowing that we're not alone on this planet and observing how a whole society of ants is so similar to ours is mind blowing. Not surprisingly, wild camping is like meditation for my mind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Living in a collective of 19 people for one year and never seen or heard a big argument.
- Cycling through the Zambian countryside, sleeping in villages without water or electricity.
- Hiking alone in the Malaysian moonsoon jungle for two days, fighting leeches and elephant poo.
- Hitchhiking around Australia for five weeks without spending a single dollar on transportation or accomodation.
- Cycling from Sweden to Istanbul

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe I can teach a lot of people a great deal about Scandinavian nature and culture, basics in math, physics and civil engineering and of course Swedish.

I might also be able to give tips and insights about planning, organization and how to get the most out of every penny while travelling.

In exchange I would like to know how to live each day as it comes without being nervous about missing out of something you could have done if planned ahead.
