About Me

I'm taking 2 years out from the corporate world writing a book and doing art.

Gay British/Irish artist and writer travelling around the world for a year or two trying to write a book and doing art projects. Just did a 3,400 mile road trip from New Orleans, round Texas and into cartel Mexico putting my art (from recent Islamic world projects) in abandoned buildings. Kicked it off in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans.

Previously worked in finance for 12 years for a major global bank in Manhattan, Manila, Seoul and London. Prior to that I worked in VC in Singapore and in the gem trade (until we got robbed at Heathrow).

Have also lived in Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Cyprus, Texas and California. I also spend quite a bit of time at my place in Egypt when the opportunity arises.

I recently did a bunch of pop-up art shows thru Ukraine and the Islamic world focusing on showing to marginalised people - everything from the Zabaleen Christian garbage collectors of Cairo to 120 Filipina sexually abused/exploited maids trapped in their embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Have been to over 75 countries. This year my itinerary includes Texas, Mexico, DC, NYC, Upstate NY, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, SF, LA, Catalina Islands, London, the Cotswolds, Edinburgh, Paris, Lyon, Estonia, Spain and Egypt.

My bf is sometimes with me on my globetrottings. He is 22, Texan, very talented rugby player and accomplished singer/songwriter/guitar player. He is studying construction engineering. He is very handy around the house so if any of you "city folk" need lightbulbs changing in exchange for accomodation that's fine.

Live and let live. Everything is on the table. Thus Sprach Zarathustra.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

As I'm on the hoof for a couple of years I'm looking to try this out rather than host.

I have never actually used this...I'm curious to see if it works and if I can save money on hotel bills.

History, current affairs, camping, fishing, rugby (my bf tried out for Team USA), art, nature, geography, culture and FOOD. Languages- my Spanish is pretty good and I can limp by in German, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean.

Music, Movies & Books

Lots and lots of historical non-fiction. Esp Byzantine, Islamic, Andalusian, Caucasus, Central Asia.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I've swam with whale-sharks and survived a pretty freaky plane accident. My house burned down and I lost everything when I lived in Seoul - amazingly memorable lol. Recently did a bunch of pop-up art shows in shelters for abused women and street kids throughout the Islamic world. Took a train thru Ukraine. Lived in Berlin before the wall fell and used to go over to the Communist East a lot.
