About Me

***Please read our profile info before applying, there's a secret word you need to use for us to consider you, you will find it below. Otherwise please don't be surprised if your request will be declined without any further explanation.***

David is an aspiring poet, political writer and reluctant journalist with an enthusiasm for cinema and a desire to do something meaningful. He enjoys philosophical conversation and laughs at television serials such as Peep Show. A perfect day for him might involve exploring an abandoned building, buying a guinea pig and seeing a Bergman double bill at the cinema.

Lola is a Soviet Union-spawned artist/photographer with a passion for cinema, visual and performance art and psychodrama. She sits on the Melbourne Cinematheque committee and has taken part in organising cultural events including the local Russian Film Festival and Czech and Slovak FIlm Festival. She speaks Russian and English fluently, gets by in Ukrainian and can probably ask where the toilet is in French. Her hula-hooping skills are, in the words of a friend, "not bad".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Our current place has a couch in the living room for the intrepid couchsurfer. The living room doubles up as a playroom for our 1-year old son so you will have privacy at night, but it's used quite a lot during the day. At the moment we are looking for someone who is happy to stay with us for a day or two and also help out around the house, playing with the toddler and help with cleaning/cooking would be greatly appreciated. If you are happy to babysit you can live with us forever. (Joking. Kind of.) You will be entering a space with a small child, so we will only invite people who are baby-friendly and can be respectful of our little family, just small things like not being too loud, being helpful and understanding that our schedule at the moment is run by the little one. We live about 20 min walks to the beach, so probably swimming and dinner together would be lovely if possible. If you read all that please use word "baby" in your request otherwise it will not be accepted.

We had great people staying with us, swims in the Half Moon Bay and battles of Settlers of Catan.

David: Cinema, poetry, urban exploration, friendly intellectual debate, philosophy, small furry animals, football (?), compiling lists.

Lola: Theatre, cinema, psychodrama, opera, visual art, human behaviour, feminism, samoyeds, geekery, not football, The Mighty Bush.
