About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Dream what I want to dream; go where I want to go; be what I want to be.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Dave!

My lust to travel, meet people and experience all the things the world has to offer is high! I love to be on the road, where the only worry is about where I will sleep each night, and everything else in the rat-race can be forgotten about, instead just push to see what there is out there, and live it, experience it and take in as much of it as possible. I wish I could travel a lot more, and in the future, as circumstances change, I hopefully will be able to.

I have just finished a degree at Manchester uni where I really enjoyed the opportunities that living in a big city gives me, such as meeting people, living up the night-life and gaining an independence from home. All change in December...the dreaded 9-5 starts - boo! But for now, I travel!

I am a vegetarian.

I look forward to both hosting and getting out there again!

PHILOSOPHY

Optimism can take you anywhere.

A bad thought becomes a bad feeling. What we think we attract.

I love this saying:
'Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be because you have only one life and only one chance to do all the things you want.'

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had an amazing time in summer 2010, spending three weeks on the road with a friend using couch surfing the whole time, meeting some truly amazing, helpful and welcoming people.

I hope to have many more Couch Surfing experiences in the future!

Interests

I play Ultimate Frisbee for my university team, which whilst keeping me fit, is a sport that is also a really good laugh and way of meeting people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I geniunely like most music, I find that what I choose to listen to depends a lot upon the situation and mood that I'm in. Some of my favourite bands/artists include blink-182, Pearl Jam, Phoenix, Manchester Orchestra, The Chemical Brothers, Streetlight Manifesto, The Shins, Enter Shikari and Rage Against The Machine.

Movies: Into The Wild, Trainspotting, Donnie Darko, Crash, The Big Lebowski.

I really enjoy reading, and I guess you could say my favourite type of novel is one that is based around social commentary. Some of the books that I've really enjoyed and highly recommend are: War and Peace, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, On The Road, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Into The Wild, Junky, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Catcher in the Rye, Join Me, The Colour Of Magic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In April 2010 I hitchhiked from Manchester to Morocco with a friend, which gave us the chance to experience and observe many different cultures and lifestyles, making the trip as much about the journey as the destination. At night we often camped in motorway service stations on any piece of grass we could find, and on a couple of occasions we had to stay in hostels. We became unstuck in Barcelona, because we arrived by chance at Easter weekend, and there were literally no beds to be found in the city. So we had to sleep rough outside the train station, which was an experience in itself..! It took us eight days to make it to Morocco, and along the way we were helped out and given lifts from various characters, making the trip very high-spirited and cheerful in a way "normal" travel hadn't given me before. We spent around ten days exploring Morocco, sleeping on hotel roofs on-the-cheap and soaking up the culture, before flying home from Marrakech. It was an adventure I will never forget!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning from people who have done it, lived it and learnt it themselves. Not just read a book about it, but have experienced and witnessed it. Whatever it may be. People like this inspire me. And I hope I can return the gift of experience and inspire others to get out there and do it for themselves.
