About Me

existential sociocultural interaction

ABOUT ME

They would say I am talkative, energetic, well-informed, humble yet experienced, imaginative, social, diplomatic, a party animal but a diligent worker bee with profound life goals (I want to publish a novel or two). Maybe also too that I am sometimes naive and idealistic. Mindful of others, egalitarian and action-oriented, though laid back.

PHILOSOPHY

Serving others

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, I am bouncing back Barna style to CS after the winter of COVID, as the pandemic hit Barcelona and Spain really hard. Point is that existentially, socioeconomically, and temporally the city has still yet to recover, so I am going all out these days :))

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

in development informally since the 1990's! If u only want a place to crash/save on traveling expenses don't request with me as the whole point of CS is the social interaction. Don't have time 4 drama and if I accept yr request it is bc I have checked my crazy schedule and have made time for you :))

Interests

talking, listening, learning, going out, studying, teaching, experiencing, reading (though I never seem to have the time to do it as much as I would like), learning (or at least hearing) new languages, art, socializing, asking questions, watching/playing some football, music (dancing and listening), walking around cities, green areas...gusty places with big fat clouds....I spend my time these days between working, finishing a thesis, looking for better work, getting confused, cultural and social activities, Catalan-language courses, cooking, and writing for a small counterculture magazine based in Amsterdam.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many (Requiem for a Dream, Belle époque, The BIG Lebowski, Det sjunde inseglet, 12 Monkeys, Le Moustache, Pulp Fiction, Bonnie & Clyde, El silencio roto, Dances with Wolves, Trainspotting, Nicotina, etc.) but I lean towards drama sometimes. I like indie films, cortos/shorts, foreign movies, documentaries, some comedy like Dazed & Confused. Love reading, as I have minor studies degree in history from the University of California. All kinds of music, as long as its spirited and/or authentic!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I AM NOW BACK IN BARCELONA PERMANENTLY) but on
New Years Eve I was on the 49 Van Ness bus to a Thievery Corporation concert in Northern California and started chatting and drinking beer with a homeless woman sitting next to me commenting on how she liked the music that I was playing on my speaker in the bus (!) I told her "I am just a couple of stops away from seeing this band, live, with a couple of friends, you want to go?"
Long story short I gave her my extra ticket and she danced and rolled with us 3 strangers past the midnight change of year in 2019! She was very happy when we parted ways--I tripped on something and got lost in the crowd and San Francisco night after the music stopped. People like that have it so hard in the U.S. and I was happy for her to have that kinda odd at first but fun as hell NYE Thievery Corporation Concert experience at the Masonic of San Francisco!

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy tolerant people who have ideas but also just regular people who want to experience the most life has to offer. I enjoy talking with people, learning their collective histories, I am fascinated by culture, all cultures, subcultures, and countercultures. I like showing people around new places too. Tend to gravitate towards people who show honesty and empathy, but without being conceded. Cooking impromptu, English composition, factoids, so much really, as I much the 'sharer'! Some call me the storyteller as I have many and can usually share upon request!

What I Can Share with Hosts

good stories, peace, willingness to go out, sought opinions, love, humility, understanding, flexibility, witty conversation, respect, "leave-it-as-you-found it" habits, openness, good humour, and general energetic positivity...maybe a keepsake only obtainable in my current City...

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Spain, United States
