About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world, one not-quite-long-enough-vacation at a time.

ABOUT ME

I'm pretty goofy in my personal life, pretty uptight in my professional life.

When I travel I'm: more interesting, not stressed, always up for a good time, ok without sleep and inclined to say "yes" to anything.

PHILOSOPHY

There's no dilemma in my life that I can't turn to the Wire or Arrested Development to solve for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've just joined the couch surfing community this summer, and had one of my best travel experiences ever while couch surfing in Belfast. My roommates have hosted several couch surfers at my apartment in Boston, and I've been able to meet several people in the local couch surfing community. I'm constantly amazed that this community was built and thrives off of the generosity of others.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had two significant couch surfing experiences so far.

First, about 2 years ago my roommate and I were looking for a third roommate, and we did the usual search on Craigslist. After several weeks of unsuccessful searching, we came across a post on couch surfing from a Brazilian med student looking for a place to stay in Boston while she was apartment hunting. We ended up meeting her and she was a great fit, and suddenly our couch surfer became our roommate (and was a great one at that!).

Second, I recently took a last minute trip to Belfast to visit a friend, and I couch surfed for the first time with an Australian ex-pat, my man Phil. Not only did Phil make us feel right at home in his apartment, he toured us around the Antrim coast and showed us a proper craic with his friends in Belfast. After two years of hosting couch surfers but still feeling on the outside of the community, I finally understood what it was all about.

Interests

There's no hobby that interests me more than my love of travel. When I'm hanging out at home, I love to golf, ski and surf (though I use the term "surf" loosely, I paddle, stand up and fall down).

Music, Movies, and Books

There's no dilemma in my life that I can't turn to Bob Dylan to solve for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hung by myself from the top of a research tower 100 feet above the Amazon rain forest canopy during the middle of the night. I've also been sunburned.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're driving more than 45 miles per hour (that's 70 km per hour for the metric types out there) you should roll up your windows and turn on your air conditioner if you're too hot, it will save energy.
