ABOUT ME

I am a man of few words, pretty philosophical on a lot of topics. I like books, dogs, crafts, outdoor fun, gardening, buiding stuff, bike rides, etc...

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I am working on boats, and have no place to offer. I can contribute advice on places to sleep and eat in the anchorage area.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted some interesting characters, my latest couchsurfing related experience was in Baja California Sur, when a host who was sheltering one of my best friends gave me some food and a good map of La Paz even though I showed up unnanounced and his mom had to go upstairs and disturb him in his morning bath.

Interests

Art, science, mythology, ghost stories, fishing, hiking; I could continue but it'd be easier not to, very long list... Lets just say if your interesting, I'd like to know why, that means whatever you like holds some appeal to me. It's a first step, no?

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of movies, watching them with people maybe more than the plot sometimes (many times). I like classic rock and blues stations, NPR, CBC, local stuff depending on the area. Books- have read many many on the boats the last year; often light stuff at sea, on land I like Hemingway, Bukowski, Cormac McCarthy, Tolkein, John Irving, William Blake, Aldo Leopold, Garrison Keilor tapes, Talking Heads, Waynes World.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen 3 porpoises ride the bow wave in our 16 foot open skiff; good luck omens. A few hours later we were nearly swamped when unexpected wind gusts of up to 50 mph came down off the glaciers, forcing us to land on a rocky spit and make camp 2 miles from the dock.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach- duct tape is good for many things; I suggest having a decent supply for any trip. When camping in bear country, hang your food high and away from your sleeping area. Would like to learn more about gardening, my first garden in Anchorage was summer 2010. It was very wet this year, and frustrating in some ways due to the weather and vandals.
