我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Until now I haven’t been in a situation where couchsurfing was my first go-to, that’s why I’m pretty new on here, even though I love to travel. The reason I’ve decided to use it now is because I want to push myself more actively to socially engage with people of all walks of life. Also, my friend and I are hitchhiking to Portugal in july, so I figured this would be incredibly useful. And lastly, I find it so enjoyable to have people over in my home, therefore I’m opening up my doors in Amsterdam.

I started (indoor) climbing last year, I experiment with sewing and making jewelry, self-care practices such as meditation and smudging are important to me, I love tea-dates and cooking with friends. Sometimes I draw or write and I try to combine these with a straw through the park or some city sight seeing. I go for a run once in a while and go thrift shopping sometimes. I like to surround myself with plants and take care of them.

Im not particularly good at fangirling specific artists. If I vibe on it, Ill love the company of a good tune. Some artist that I enjoy are Bonobo, Jorja Smith, Odesza, Mike Love, Ta-Ku, Masego. Generally, I go for an atmosphere rather than an artist. This means mornings with jazzy french music, cleaning sessions with afrobeats or chill out evenings with acoustic guitar and hang drum melodies.

As for movies, I haven’t watched any in some time. Series such as Orphan Black and Stranger Things were nice. I love documentaries on all kinds of topics. I’ve watched plenty on food, health and the environment. I like realistic future scenario type of movies, like the episodes of Black Mirror or Ex Machina. Disney and children’s movies are great also.

Books that currently grab my attention are in the positive psychology / self-help category. I just really like the idea that I can upload centuries worth of wisdom in my mind and behavior by simply reading. Some works that have been impactful for me are Outliers, the Power of Now, Ishmael, What the Buddha Taught, the Mastery of Love, Women who run with the Wolves etc. A fiction trilogy that I’ve recently read is His Dark Materials and of course a good romance is always well appreciated.

The moment I sent out a few papers and found myself studying in Bangkok, Thailand for half a year. That was the moment I realized and properly started practicing gratitude. I often find myself in fortunate positions and I thank the universe every step of the way.

A good talk:) I also don’t mind cleaning up, sleeping in ‘simple’ conditions (Ive slept on an all wooden bed before (including the pillow)), giving you some space (I always find a way to keep myself busy) and helping with anything in the house (the garden or painting the walls, etc).
