About Me

Curious, happy, great sense of humor, open minded, a good listener. I began solo travel at the age of 16 and hitchhiked 7,000 or so miles over the years. I do a lot of travel in Canada, UK and USA but now that my children are adults I'm back on the road globally. No longer playing poker or bocce for money like I did when I was in teenager in Europe! I love meeting people from all cultures, all ages, all orientations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is no way to better connect with another's spirit than to share time in their home and neighborhood. I'm currently renovating my home and am excited to soon open it to travelers. I live in a medium sized place
known as one of America's Coolest Cities, Beer City (you can't avoid our microbreweries unless you really try), we're located half an hour from Lake Michigan, 3 hours from Chicago, Traverse City and Detroit. Note that in the US, these travel times are considered something you can start in the morning and return from in the evening or they can be part of The Great American Road Trip that stretches for weeks. It's great hub for people who appreciate jazz, beer, salt and shark free fresh water!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saved a lot of lives/improved a lot of peoples health. Yeah, that's satisfying.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you basic cooking from US southern style to sauce making to a few Vietnamese dishes. How to cook a great meal for little money, how to recognize what you have to be grateful for, how to bottle fruit, jams, pickles and whatever is in your garden. I can teach you how to care for a baby, a new mother or an elderly person, I can practice American English with you and explain the oddities of our use of the language. I can teach you how to mend your clothes, make basic curtains and pillow covers. I'd like to learn whatever you know!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A calm and pleasant presence, a listening ear, respectful kindness, laughter, a few drinks, coffee, tea, an opinion if asked for one. I'll buy you lunch in a local joint if you'll tell me about the food you like and your childhood cuisine. A lot of experience. A lot of laughs. Light and love.
