About Me

ABOUT ME

Born in Moscow, grew up in Moscow and partly in Jurmala (Latvia), live in Moscow, enjoy being in areas not very populated, but I am definitely more used for living in a cosmopolitan big cities.

PHILOSOPHY

this is complicated. I doubt I can answer in a few sentences. there are some important things like "you should give more then you take" but they seem obvious. I will have to think of this maybe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started with hosting travellers mostly. Then some events in my home city, Moscow, where I really go rarely. But later I started to attend the events in other places, and sometimes it just brings fun.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly very pleasant impressions of the people I meet. I really enjoy these spontaneous connections. This service brought some very different feeling to the recent autumn and summer. Hosting some brilliant people from different areas. This communication shows up some specific attitude, which is hard to express. Probably it extends the knowledge of both of those who participate. You see different attitude, different emotion, see the place from the different angle.

Interests

I enjoy literature, modern and classic. I do agree to that idea which flows through some things by Joseph Brodsky (for instance, his Nobel Lecture) that if everyone would read more, there would be less amount of evil in the world. Would say the good book is a place where you can get something for yourself using your own patience.

What I like is exploring new places accompanied with someone having vision at least a little bit connected to my own.

Sometimes exploring your own city with another person gives very different angles, too.

I practice yoga a little bit, and also I play in an ultimate frisbee team.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - wide variety of styles and directions - hard to find out the most preferred. Listened to a lot of indie and rock, things like country-related americana are also in my playlists - also jazz (John Coltrane, Miles Davis), funk and soul, and also contemporary classics (like Steve Reich and Philip Glass) and avantgarde (for whatever it is - Frank Zappa or John Zorn with his different companies).

Books, Authors. Paul Bowles, Charles Bukowski, are those I enjoy to communicate to. Jorge Luis Borges and Julian Barnes are those who gave some benchmarks to my points of view.
Philosophers like Gilles Deleuze and Vladimir Bibikhin gave much to what is supposed to be how I perceive what I live through.
Among the poets there must be mentioned Anna Akhmatova and Wystan Auden.

Movies From J.Jarmusch`s most recent to V.Venders old movies of 1970s, and.. oh there are many.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It is a very hard question. Curiousity brings you so much of amazing things. The coast of basque country was amazing for me this year. The way that architecture and nature coexist, in particular. For the previous year these would be the city of Porto , and it's outstandingly engineered environment.

Teach, Learn, Share

If I can learn something - that is always a pleasure. I enjoy sharing my knowledge if you will need some of it. I traveled a lot in Russia, and traveled some locations around the world, so I can be informative on some topics there. But finding other connections is not less interesting.
