About Me

I have been living in Latvia all my life. Just lived 3 years in UK while studying. Now settled back in LV. I love thoughtful, reflective people who know history of their views, who are optimistic and eager to learn about world and tell about it too. I love cartoon - Life with Louie, Spongebob, Rick & Morty. I love tattoos and I'm on my journey to combine love for cartoon with tattoos :)))). I work in logistics, no great fun there to tell about, but I like my job. Very much interested in politics, sociology, ethics, morals and so on. Basically in a life of human in a society. I reckon that true living unfolds through cooperation with people, struggle for rights and the Good, political engagement and, you know, "Res Publica". I like to get shit crazy at a punk gig and recently hurt my lag while flying all over the concert place. I admire DIY ethics, have great bit of respect to "Greens", though my views are less radical. For instance, I'm for lesser consumption of meat, but not total abolition. And many many other that I'm more than happy to tell during conversation with new people. Meeting New People EXCITES me!!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm rarely travelling. In fact, I'd say I have not ever travelled consciously, excluding visiting friends abroad. But I know that I don't like that stereotypical tourism to attractions and hotels. It's like pseudo human Safari. Eating "local cousine" in a restaurant is not a local cousine. Get to know locals, eat with them, exchange everything is much more appealing to me. So for me the goal of travelling is meeting new people, rather than visiting new places. I hardly appreciate architecture to an extent that it is enough for me to constitute full purpose of travel. I may well visit 10 castles. 20 churches and 10 museums, but if I'm doing it alone I won't feel great about it.
I like what Slavoj Zizek once said (reminiscing freely, not quotation) "If you want to learn different culture, stop asking "Oh what is your local cousine? Is that true that you do that and that as stereotypes say?" Ask them to tell you local DIRTY JOKE." Because a little of obscenity sets the path for trustful, easy, light and open conversation.

Interests

Some call me Cartoon Boy. I know Spongebob and Life with Louie almost by heart. As well as Lord of the Rings. New fav cartoons is Rick and Morty.
I see the deep meanings in those cartoons and I can perfectly match them with my interests in "serious" stuff hehehe.

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of music, I am more into heavy stuff, but with many many exceptions. Lately more of hardcore punk, some old Oi! classics. Also stupid russian pop, different Humorecore like Psychostick, Tenacious D. Strange stuff like Tiger Lillies. I admire band Primus and almost all solo projects of Les Claypool.

Movies - dramas, tragicomedies and thrillers are my favourite genres. From the last movies I've seen, I was quite impressed by Get Out; Baby Driver; Three Billboards Missouri. Some of my all time favourites are Lord of the Rings, Jagten, 300, Knight's Tale, The Calvary, Hateful Eight.
Generally, I like brother Cohens' and McDonoughs' movies. As well as Tarantino.
Possibly, I'd like some specific author cinema, but I don't know much about it, although what I've seen seemed to me too "High Brow" and snobbery. As if "true art" has to strictly oppose itself to mass culture. I don't think this is necessarily the case. It's somewhat childish protest even.

Books - non-fiction. (Medicine, Biology, Evolutionary psychology, Cognitive sciences, Political studies, Sociology, economics).
Fiction is my weak spot. I kind of like it - read all Camus, he's great! But I don't much about it and I've dropped about 30 books half-read, because I can't find anything that would really hook me up.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bought, repaired and designed interior for my flat. I say it was pretty damn big and difficult enterprise, so it's really an achievement.

Teach, Learn, Share

I prefer to get knowledge from books, however, the experience is only coming from personal contacts. Stories of ours are always good illustrations of some more common phenomena and help to fill raw knowledge with lively energy of real cases. Methodology vs. Erudition you know. This really intimates the communication. I love when conversations just pick you up on a boat, storm around and in the end you can't understand how did you end up talking about that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun time spend with, tidyness, politeness, some monetary support, co-drinker "functionality", reciprocating hosting in LV.

Estonia, Finland, France, Lithuania, Netherlands, Russian Federation, United Kingdom
