PHILOSOPHY

Basically I am a relaxed person who enjoys life as much as possible while making it a priority not to do any harm to others, be it emotionally, financially or whatever way. I do believe in "what goes around, comes around" or what lots of people mistake for "Karma". Maybe it is not that obvious at times, but I know for a fact that life actually works that way. Everything catches up with you eventually. Good or bad. :)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I am basically exploring how the principle of couchsurfing works with the internet and an abundance of people. I have been a couchsurfer (both ways) all my life. There is nothing I enjoy more than being spontaneous and flexible, thus I more than once ended up in the middle of nowhere across the border (sometimes even without any money, let alone passport) and needed to find a place to sleep. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. But usually I ended up meeting nice people and crashed there on the couch, the floor, the balcony ... you name it. And I also enjoyed offering my flat to people I met that night if we got along well. So for me the whole "organised spontaneity" was a bit weird when I first heard of it - but I love the idea of this project and so far have only heard good things about it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I found out I have been a couchsurfer all my life (despite not knowing the expression), offering and receiving. All very spontaneous and unplanned. But nearly all experiences were positive and the ones that weren't are at least things that I could probably tell my grandchildren when I am old and grey. If they are old enough to hear about some of the stuff ...

Meeting nice, spontaneous people, playing all sorts of sports (basketball, (beach)volleyball, soccer, (flag-)football, squash,...), having fun, going out, relaxing with a nice Cai Pirinha or a beer, ...

... basically lots of comedies. Life is too serious. ;)

Music:
basically anything that is not too techno or electronic ... Peter Gabriel is one of my all-time favourite musicians because I am fascinated by the development of his musical style (and although I mostly prefer his old works I think it speaks volumes for an artist if he or she is able to move on)

Books:
Again, mostly funny stuff like Terry Pratchett's Discworld Novels, but also biographies (currently Nelson Mandela) and historical books (currently about the Habsburger Monarchy of Austria-Hungary).

Most of my friends find a lot of the stuff that I did and that happened to me was (and is) amazing. For me most of it was normal or necessary at the time. Once you realise you have to actively live your life and not let others decide what you ought to or can do you will realise that a lot of people will be amazed and impressed by the way you live. ;)
