About Me

My name is Destanye (pronounced like Destiny), I travel with my boyfriend Kurt. We've seen quite a bit of the US via our van, which we've also been living in full time for a little over a year now. Had to devote this past year to doing 'adult' things since I graduated college (like working a real job, ugh). But I've paid my dues now and am ready to escape the real world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling without meeting new people feels kinds empty. My favorite part of traveling is just seeing how normal people live their day to day life. Ruins and museums and stuff are cool too, but it doesn't give you the full picture. And maximizing my funds so that the travel can continue longer is also great :)

Music, Movies, and Books

My love is electronic music, all kinds of sub-genres, all things dark and light.

I tend to like kid movies, anything Disney or animated and pretty. Any cheesy rom-com from the 2000s is always a yes for me. I also love documentaries.

My 3 all time favorite shows: King of the Hill, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Avatar the Last Airbender. I'm like a cultist for all these shows. More recently I've just finished My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and we're currently watching every episode of Adventure Time (there's a lot).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Drove all the way from Houston TX to Canada, then around through Maine, down the East Coast and back to Texas. All of this in over a course of 2 months, more than 7,000 miles total. Often going down sketchy 1 lane mountain and logging roads, losing cell phone service and going completely off the grid. Living in the van the whole time, cooking almost every meal from scratch on our 1 burner, producing all our own electricity with 4 solar panels and showering with nothing more than 2 water bottles every now and then.
