ABOUT ME

I'm an undergraduate student at Oberlin studying music composition and the liberal arts. I love music and the arts to the point that I'm not sure that I can think of things that are more important. I also love soccer. I play on the varsity team in college. It can be an amazing way of culturally connecting, since it is the most popular sport on the planet.

I'm sort of a silly person, partly because I can be funny sometimes, and partly because I get anxious other times. I really like creating friendships and trying to meet all of the different types of people that the world has to offer. People are a fascinating species. I don't eat meat, but that should not influence anyone's decision to stay with me or let me stay with them, because I can feed myself and be accommodating, I'm not looking to convert anyone or mess up anyone's eating habits. I'm extremely non-religious, and I'm not conservative. I also like to keep an open mind. So long as you have an open mind, I'd love to interact with anyone so that I can learn more about other perspectives or find someone to relate to.

My sleep schedule is kind of weird. The only thing consistent about it is that I don't go to bed early. However, I'm quiet if other people are asleep, so I won't be messing up anyone's sleeping schedule.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm pretty existential, but not in a depressing way, more in a "carpe diem" way. I'm an atheist and I don't eat meat. I'm also extremely far from conservative, but I don't want to say liberal since it is such a loaded term and I don't associate myself with the democrats either (they're a fine bunch, though, I don't dislike them). I'm a socialist, but not a statist. I love learning and I want everyone to fulfill the potential for their personal development.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to this, but I'm trying it for the first time, and so long as all goes well, I want to promote this to people that I know. A lot of people I know are skeptical about how well this works, especially regarding safety, so I'd like to dispel their doubts.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm very very new to this, so no experience so far. However, this community seems incredibly cool, and I look forward to supporting and participating in it provided that my experiences are positive. The principles that this community is founded on are fantastic and I feel like they align with my values perfectly.

Musica, film e libri

I love all music, especially modern alternative, indie, electronic, hip-hop, etc. (including the appropriate subsections of these genres). I know a good amount about music, so if you're looking for some new music to listen to or to learn something about music, then I can certainly be of service. I love reading. My favorite book is Invisible Monsters. I like existential literature. If there is political, philosophical, or cultural content that is thought provoking, and hopefully challenging in some way, then I'll read it. I like movies, but I'm not an authority on them by any means. I like movies like This Is England and I <3 Huckabees and Amelie and whatever else isn't cliche and that is thought provoking.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

When I was little I had an au pair from Belgium. She currently lives in South Africa, but she was in the U.S. a couple years back and I saw her for the first time since I was a toddler. It was amazing and we hung out in New York together and she stayed at my house. We talked a lot about the world since she's traveled a lot. This kind of cultural bond and exchange was extremely rewarding, and I hope that I can contribute to experiences like this with other people.

I have a good level of knowledge about music, so I'm willing to share with anyone. I also can play soccer with anyone who is looking to improve their skills. I teach piano as well. I'd love to learn about the arts scene in any new area I'm surfing in. I'd also love to learn about someone else's musical knowledge or experience, and in general their life philosophy. If anyone is good with computers or visual art, then please teach me a little.
