About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To model the changes I wish to see, focusing on sustainability, community, and never-ending personal and social evolution; as well as finding others active in these and similar endeavors, and to offer my energy to and learn from these individuals.

ABOUT ME

Greetings Earth-dwellers :)
This is Devyn: I'm a truth seeker, a motivated learner, an artist, a cook, a writer, a poet, an environmentalist, a laborer, a proud citizen of Black Rock City and Burning Man attendee, a musician, a yoga practitioner, a peaceful rebel, a pet-lover, a conservationalist and Wastebuster, but mostly, in my young age, a student of the Universe and that which whatever the world has to teach me.

I made plans to start traveling in July after working with Wastebusters at the Stilldream and Sunset campouts, feeling a wanderlust and sense of freedom that needed to be recreated.
Now, I find those plans have evolved. The universe has brought into my life an inspiring, motivating, and loving partner to join me, and together be a force of positive change. My partner Quintessa and I plan to travel for the next year or so, offering our services to progressive thinkers and doers in exchange for the learning experiences they can offer. We plan on connecting to ecovillages, Native American Tribes, Zeitgeist movement participants, sustainable farms, and any other people or groups that the Universe decides to connect us to.

PHILOSOPHY

I do it for the evolution of consciousness. We are entering majikal times, in which more and more people are lifting the veil of illusion and seeing things for as they truly are. I believe all of us and all that is are reflections of divinity; at the core we are perfect and hold infinite potential. However, we have removed ourselves so far from our natural selves in a society that often demands sacrifice of individuality for a wage, where the chasing of money for survival becomes a rat race that makes us lose sight of our true potentials. Despite the conditions we face today, I believe all of us have the power to break through anything that opposes, constricts, and controls us in order to truly feel and experience love and freedom. Even if my outlets are few at the moment, I dedicate my actions to the evolution of this consciousness; the conscious awareness of our vast potential and the power to achieve it.

I aim to be:
the Seeker, on the move to find truth and wisdom.
the Student, open to lifelong learning.
the divine Child, awing at and respecting nature.
the Artist, attempting to convey deeper reality via symbols, words, and musical notes.
the Rebel, rejecting systems that do not serve the spirit.
the Peaceful Warrior, strengthening my will to conquer the ego and to better serve others.

Every religious and spiritual path leads to the same source: the union of Self with Infinite Potentiality, told through different lenses of culture and environment, therefore I am open to learning about and integrating any form of spirituality, and know the importance of all spiritual archetypes, from the Cosmic Christ to Shiva the Auspicious One, the archangels to the Buddha. Each is a piece of the puzzle in unlocking the secrets to the Ways of the Universe, knowledge hidden deep within our consciousness, slowly revealing itself once again for all to realize.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am most comfortable with helping in the kitchen when I am a guest at someones home. I enjoy cooking with whatever is available, able to turn most fridge items into something edible and delicious, and even dishwashing and general housekeeping make me happy to help. I've done yardwork for friends, plowing dirt for future gardens and gathering firewood. I worked for several years in my teenagism as a dog bather, and would be happy to offer that service as well. Meanwhile, I keep things interesting with engaging intellectual conversation, the sharing of ideas and stories, and my goofy humor and happy just to kick it and enjoy company as well :) I hope that as I travel more, I can add to this section.

Amazing so far.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Burning Man Festival has fostered some of the most amazing experiences of my life. I have attended on three occasions, and plan on going back as much as I can. The freedom of expression creates such a magical environment, where everybody is able to truly be themselves, freely and beautifully. The element of 'radical self-reliance' forces people to get really creative on how they survive, reusing materials and being conscious of consumption of resources. I have risked extreme bodiliy harm at the bonfire of the Man and have come away unscathed, defying all rational physics and transcending the limits of the body. My experiences at Burning Man have led me to try and replicate the feeling into my lifestyle, and inspire the same freedom and beauty of expression in others.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can show/teach what I know of yoga (hatha/kundalini) and if you are a yoga enthusiast as well, would love to share what we know.
I am interested in learning by helping/volunteering, in such endeavors such as gardening, farming, construction/building, holistic healing, outdoor survival, and communal politics. I am always interested in expanding my culinary skills, so let me be your sous chef :)
