COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed all over the US, in Spain, and in the Netherlands. All of my experiences have been quite positive. Couchsurfing continues to amaze me -- the sort of generosity that strangers offer you through the community.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music... Oufda, there is no beginning or end. I love all sorts of music.

Authors: George Saunders, John O'Donohue, Herman Hesse, Tom Robbins, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In northern Spain, a couple of friends and I decided to go camping one weekend in the Cantabrian mountains. We all were taking a Spanish geography course at the time and asked the professor for help. He drew us a map on a blank sheet of paper and told us generally where to go. Two days later, we got on a bus with our backpacks and a tent. We hiked through the 6 or 7 mountain peaks he recommended we visit with only the hand drawn map he gave us.

I experienced Lāčplēša diena (Bearslayer's Day) in Riga, Latvia. It is a day to remember the soldiers who defended the city against the pro-German, Russian army of Bermont in the early 20th century. Thousands of candles are lit outside of the president's castle along the river Daugava. It's an ineffable feeling really, but it brings a powerful sense of community and collective respect for ancestors.
