ABOUT ME
Everything I know has come from comic books, crossword puzzles or Ultimate Frisbee. The big three taught me to always do good, use big words and run real fast.
In 2011, weekend trips trips to random cities turned into a full time job. I've been on the road with Bess the Book Bus, a nonprofit that brings free books into underserved communities. In the past three years, I've spent 15 months on the road for personal and business trips.
Things have slowed as I've settled in Orlando for over the last year. Hate to say it, but sitting still ain't so bad. I've been working as a bike taxi, cooking for friends and polishing up some short stories.
PHILOSOPHY
Put your efforts where they do the most good.
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I couch surf pretty often, at least once every six months. Haven't had the pleasure of hosting anyone though. But I swear this isn't a one sided relationship. One host taught me to make a stove out of two beer cans, and I've passed it on. Another taught me to bind books, and I've shared that too. Not everyone has the chance to travel, so I like to share the best parts of where I've been.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first venture was in 2006, but it wasn't techincally couch surfing. My friends and I called it Urban Freestyle Camping or The Art of Making Friends. Basically, you get off the Greyhound and start talking to people and see where it goes. The outcomes varied. One night we slept in a dojo. There was another time that was less successful that ended in an alley.
That was a little too unreliable. After the alley incident, I stopped traveling for a bit. Then my friend introduced me to couch surfing and I've taken four long trips from Toledo to Tampa and stayed with 20 or so hosts.

Musik, Filme und Bücher
Big sci fan. My favorite authors or Harry Harrison and Joe Haldeman. But I'll read any old $2 paperback just see what people were thinking about the future.
Music is always open to suggestion and anything live is always preferred. I really like ska music and the current folk resurgence that makes uses of horns.
I don't catch many movies. But a month ago (mid march) I marathoned Life Aquatic, Soylent Green and Buckaroo Bonzai with a friend. Made for a good night.
Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
There are a lot of things that I'm proud of, so it's hard to choose from. So to keep things short, the list will be limited to things that I can prove:
Coaching the USF Ultimate Frisbe team in college [video: Scourge Go to Sectionals]
Volunteering at the Sanford/Orlando Airport to assist Haitian repatriates [blog]
Lehren, lernen, teilen
I have an incredible joke that I only share with couch surfing hosts.
