CURRENT MISSION

Right now I'm really digging my job which gives me a sense of purpose to my day. I have worked in education for 7 or 9 years depending on how you count it. First teaching English abroad in China, then teaching middle school back in the US, and now working in the district office. I think it's important to leave a positive impact, and this is one small way I can do that.

ABOUT ME

I'm pretty new to couch-surfing as you can probably tell from my profile, but I am very excited to meet people and share stories. I have traveled to about fifteen different countries, and my favorite things when traveling is hearing their stories and eating the local food. I admit I enjoy sightseeing too but try to hit both tourist places and the less-visited areas and just absorb the environment. I usually travel with someone but have recently enjoyed more solo traveling which allows me to leave my comfort zone and gives me more opportunity to meet others. People are really nice to solo travelers.

Unfortunately, I have no couch for surfing right now but I do have time so if you want to hang out and are in or coming to Houston, shoot me a message. Having grown up in Houston, I'm excited about how much more I have to learn about the city because there is just so much to do and so much diversity here! I'll show you the great places to eat!

Interests

Hanging out with friends, but then again, aren't we all? =) Besides that, I really like live music (see music below). And game nights - Settlers, 7 Wonders, Bohnanza, etc. My friends and I have also been hitting up escape rooms recently.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmm, I went skydiving a few summers ago. That was pretty far outside my comfort zone, and it was awesome. Travel-wise, my sisters and I once flagged down a bus on the highway in Ecuador. We had missed the last bus but had to get back to Quito for a flight to the Galapagos the next morning. We were worried at first but then laughing the whole time after and even now. Another favorite memory was while I was in China hiking a mountain with friends. It was peak travel season, and the mountain was packed. We got to the only lodging halfway up the mountain and it was booked out, so they gave us blankets and a pillow. I should mention that this was a monastery, and the next morning, we were greeted by the morning light streaming into the temple and surrounded by Buddhist statues. That was pretty cool.
