About Me

I was born in New Mexico but moved to California at a early age and spent most of my life there. I grew up in a small suburb outside of Los Angeles with my parents and 3 younger brothers. After high school went to Beauty college and worked in that field for 40 years.
I married at 24 and had two sons. Moved to another area and lived there until I moved to Las Vegas. My reason for moving was the death of my husband of 36 years and six weeks later the death of my youngest son. My father and youngest brother were living in Las Vegas and I moved to help care for my father.
I've had a lot to deal with in my life but continue to think positive and try to live life to the fullest. In my life I have enjoyed the pleasure of having grandchildren and great-grandchildren but don't think I'm some "little old lady". I am still a very active person. I work part-time and dance several times a week.
I am Hispanic on both sides. My father's heritage is from Mexico and my mothers from Spain. My aunt traced my mothers side back 400 years and found out that her family was one of the first families to settle the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. My maiden name is Perez.

Never got to travel much before but recently have had the opportunity to do so.
I love to entertain my fiends in my home and do so on a regular basis by hosting dinner and dancing parties.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Sounds like a great way to maximize my travel . I'm a friendly person and think it would be great to meet the people of the place I will be visiting and get an" authentic" feel of the country and it's people.
I just heard about this and love the idea and look forward to hosting someone in my home.

Interests

I love many things, such as camping and fishing and hiking. I love reading, cooking, baking and working in my yard. I enjoy learning about history and once was a docent at the "old town district of Los Angeles"I also love music and dancing and movies, old and new. After my husbands death I was introduced to a whole new world of food, dance and music by a friend from the Dominican Republic which changed my life . I now dance Salsa on a regular basis and have even competed in the Nevada Senior Games and won several "Gold Medals"
I recently learned how to shoot a gun and also won a Gold Medal for my age group in that competition.

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes vary so much in each of the categories that it is hard to name favorites.
In music I like, Michael Jackson and Elvis to Sinatra and Pavarotti. I love music from stage musicals, some of my favorites being, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Chorus Line,Fiddler on the Roof etc. I love all forms of Latin music and some jazz.
In movies, I love the films of the 40's through present time. I especially like Foreign and "Indie" films, but not a fan of horror films. Some of my favorites are, Singing in the Rain,Casablanca,Forest Gump, Dances with Wolves,Life is Beautiful,Indochina there are just so many I enjoy all in different categories.
I don't seem to have much time to read anymore but try to read a little every night before going to sleep.Mostly I read fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Might not seem amazing to some people but to me the most amazing thing I have done is survive the death of my husband and son. After their deaths I could not imagine how I could go on with my life. At times it was very difficult I was so depressed and on medication but I have survived and gone on to do things I never dreamed that I would ever do. I've met new, wonderful people who have enriched my life, I've competed in dance and won! I have finally been able to travel which was always a dream of mine. Been to the Great Wall of China and zip-lined in the jungle! and found love again which I though was impossible .

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and bake and have shared that love with my granddaughters and friends. I have attended several cooking classes throughout my life. I like to continue to learn about things that interest me.
I have leaned to dance and now enjoy teaching others some of the things I have learned.
Feel good that at my age I have learned how to use a computer and an Android phone

What I Can Share with Hosts

I could share my interest in cooking by helping with the preparation of meals or trying to prepare a dish of my own. Share my appreciation of their hospitality by helping in any way I can and respecting their home.
