About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Current Life Philosophy: Life is too short not to eat delicious food. (Lasagna corrollary: Make every lasagna like it's the last one that'll ever be made.)

ABOUT ME

I love to travel, although I usually need someone else to kick-start me into going somewhere. I'm having a blast here in Dayton so far (I know...Dayton! Who knew?) Uhhh... oh hell, I'll type something else here later.

PHILOSOPHY

See "Current Mission" statement. In general, I choose to believe life is for learning and loving.

Music, Movies, and Books

Does anyone know when that documentary "No End in Sight" (I think that's the right title) is coming out? Heard about it on NPR. Reading the Dune books by Herbert and loving them! All music: Bach to Fergie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First thing that popped into my noodle: I was walking through a public park a couple weeks ago. Forest trails, nothing too vigorous. I chanced upon an epic battle. Two completely red cardinals (?) were defending their little copse from an encroaching blue jay. It was awesome. First the stark color contrast of Red versus Blue against the verdant battlefield was stunning. And these birds were seriously waging a furious fight. They chased and darted and attacked and feinted. At one point one of the cardinals and the jay were caught in a tumbling fray of flapping wings and shrill cries. They fell from an upper branch, turning and twisting, grappling with one another until, just above the ground they broke apart and flared their wings to fly away from each other momentarily. It had the same feel as the sequence from the 2nd Lord of the Rings movie where Gandalf and the Balrog are plumetting from the bridge of Khazad-Dum and falling and fighting. Anyway, the Red birds successfully repelled the jay, who scamperred off in the high branches looking vexed and harried. I'm grateful the Universe contrived to put me ring-side for that. I don't believe in god or a god or whatever. But I've decided recently to start praying. My prayers are to express and meditate on the gratitude I feel for my existence and all the blessings that are continually heaped upon me (like this little moment observing a complex interaction of nature that was so incredibly beautiful and exciting). My prayers aren't to anyone or anything. Does a prayer have to have an addressee? I think I've decided that it doesn't. If it did, I wouldn't bother.
