I am a 27 year old traveling throughout Europe for the next year. I play guitar and enjoy leaning new languages. I have an apartment in New York and worked as a bartender in Soho. I love to meet people and traveling alone gives the best opportunity to do so.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hostels can be fun, but the point of traveling to a different country is to learn about its culture. Hostels often inhibit the ability to connect with the surrounding area because experiences are often determined by other guests or the knowledge and management of the employees. There is no better way to experience any culture than to meet locals. People that travel understand the pleasure of meeting people from different backgrounds, and that is why only travelers truly understand why couchsurfing is free.

Interests

I love to play music and learn languages. These interests are often the best icebreakers for meeting people in different countries. Music allows me to connect with people whom I cannot communicate linguistically, and languages allow me to fully immerse into an environment. I enjoy challenging social situations, such as arriving in an area in which I know nobody and leaving with at least a friend that can look me up if ever he or she decides to come to New York. I am not interested in or particularly good at, however, writing about myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

I cannot prioritize bands, but I enjoy pieces from just about every genre. Traveling allows me to learn about music I have never heard of and I love to learn songs in different languages. Some of my favorite books are Catch-22, the Razor's Edge, Clockwork Orange, the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and Fahrenheit 451.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Canoed down the Amazon for 3 weeks on a budget of $80 with two Peruvians I met at a bar in Iquitos.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very clean, I am not too unpleasant to listen to on the guitar, and I absolutely love to exchange stories. I love the company of other open minded people and often the more diverse of a background creates the more interesting of a conversation.
