About Me
Don't dream your life, but live your dreams. That is my motto! I'm Dimitri, 33 years old and I live together with my amazing girlfriend Caat. I love to travel, experience new things, meet new people and try new food. When I'm in Belgium, I work for Europ Assistance so I kind of know everything that can go wrong when you are travelling. I very much like the fact that I can help people in trouble. Most of the time, I work for one or two years before escaping for a new adventure. I travelled around New Zealand in a car for one year, worked with street children in India, joined animation crews in South Europe and last year, I walked 2.330 km for my home town Oudenaarde to Santiago de Compostella. Oudenaarde is a rather small town, but it is situated in the green flemish hills famous for cycling and walking and it is only a 20min away from Ghent, an amazing city you have to visit.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Last year while walking the camino de Santiago, I had only my hiking boots and my backpack. Every night, I had to find a place to sleep. I was simply amazed by how many people opened their doors for me, allowed me into their lives for one night, shared stories, offered me a bed and even a meal. Some nights, some people I will never forget. Now I want to do the same for other travellers. My couch is waiting for you, bring your good mood and some stories and enjoy a sunset on my balcony...
Interests
I'm very open-minded and open for all kinds of things. I love hiking and for the moment, I'm training for a marathon. I'm very active and also keen on climbing. Apart from that, I also like to hang out with some wine and why not, a good game :)
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies on adventurers are my favourite. Like probably for a lot of people, my number 1 movies are into the wild and wild. For what is concerned books, I prefer a good thriller. For the moment I'm reading I travel alone written by the Scandinavian Samuel Bjork. Highly recommended! I'm not difficult with music, pop music can make me very happy, but a good rock concert can entertain me as much. I even enjoy classical music from time to time.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
If I have to pick one, my bungy jump from the Kawarau bridge in New Zealand.
