About Me

Regrettably not able to currently accept guests because I am on the road, doing this:

Nexus Expedition - Circumnavigating the globe by human power (bicycling, walking, skiing, swimming and rowing).

Currently planning the next section of my expedition which will be rowing from Namibia to Brazil, starting in December 2023. There I will then cycle back to Alaska where this human powered circumnavigation of the globe began.

I am French and my wife Gulnara is a Russian Tatar from Kazan.
Gulnara usually joins me on some of the sections of this endeavor but is currently sadly unable to do so.

You can see references we have received together under Gulnara's profile:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a great way to meet people of different cultures when I am traveling and to welcome some of them when I am at home.
Good approach to get to know locals and/or expats; and to better learn about the places I am crossing.

Interests

Travel, visit historical sites, museums, parks, religious/spiritual sites

Long distance cycling, kayaking, scuba diving, free diving, swimming, skiing (downhill and cross-country), snowshoeing, trekking through mountains and deserts.

Experience local food
Pick Mushrooms, look for hot springs.
Attend concerts, live shows, theater plays.
See movies in movie theaters while it is still possible.

Share meals with friends.
Keep in touch with my loved ones through Skype and else...
Member of the Hash House Harriers community and the Explorers Club

Music, Movies, and Books

Very eclectic taste of music. Usually quite eager to learn about the local music as I am traveling.
Lately, very much enjoying Amapiano music.

Same goes with movies. It's a great way to learn about the local culture once again.
I am also a big fan of documentaries and what wikipedia calls "survival film" genre.

I like to follow international news, especially on countries I have crossed and are closely familiar with.
As a result, over the last few years I have not read as many novels as I wanted to and need to get back at it...
That's my excuse for not reading enough...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekking, skiing and swimming across the Bering Strait from Alaska (USA) to Russia in 2005 with Karl Bushby.
We were supposedly the first to accomplish this endeavor, westbound.
It took 15 days and it was an exhilarating experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some French or try to help you improve your english, if you so desire.
I can share tips on countries I have crossed over the years (more than 70 countries)
or the ones I have lived in.
(I count for that, any country where I spent more than 5 months and therefore was able to get somewhat of a good knowledge of the local places and the culture).

I can share tips on long distance cycling, trekking, pulling a sled, etc...

I can help cook and definitely can clean dishes and/or help clean the house, if you so desire.

What I Can Share with Hosts

see above.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Egypt, France, Hong Kong, Iran, Jordan, Mongolia, Russian Federation, South Korea, United States
