About Me

I'm a currently slightly disoriented person! I lived in London for about 15 years and then moved up to a much smaller city called Lancaster in 2024. I'm still kinda getting used to it. It has a nice community feel to it and is near some nice mountains. It doesn't take too long to get into Manchester for gigs.

I'm a friendly, relaxed, down-to-earth, curious, adventurous person. I'm quite politically engaged (see below). I like meeting and being with people but I'm usually one of the quieter people in groups. I only drink occasionally nowadays.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had some very nice times couchsurfing about 15 years ago and have always thought about trying it again. Now I've moved somewhere smaller and less international/diverse I'm hoping it can be a way for me to connect with interesting/fun people from around the world.

I'll need to be very selective about who I host in my flat (see info on 'My home' section). I'm more likely to be available for meeting up and showing people round the town/area/mountains.

Interests

Climbing (mainly sport climbing), hiking/walks, wildswimming, badminton, tennis

Gigs, cinema

Reading (mainly political stuff or short fiction) and tiny bits of writing fiction and poetry

Wildness, birds, animals, plants, water, weather

Lots of different food but particularly spicy food

Political things: I'm far left, aiming for anarchistic, communistic, anti-racist/patriarchal/ableist. I've given quite a bit of solidarity in renters unions in London and Lancaster, and in some Palestine stuff, and I try to be in solidarity in friendships/relationships etc. I try to live more sustainably. I mostly eat vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian food but sometimes eat meat when cooked by others. I’m fairly straight but questioning/learning/unlearning, and I'm non-monogamous. For money, I work freelance part-time in book publishing. I'm hoping to move to something else at some point and am currently trying to do some learning/reading.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Er, travelled round the UK and France catsitting and van-living!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can:
-take people climbing, hiking, swimming
-show people around the bit of the UK I live in
-share nice but fairly basic food - mainly vegetarian or vegan
-go to gigs if there's something we might all like
-chat about radical politics

I like to learn about how other people feel/think about the world and life.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Spain, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
