ABOUT ME

Literature and video games are at the forefront of my life. In the background is a guitar and a soccer ball. The framework would have to be education: I am happiest when someone around me is learning something new, because I am completely addicted to the spark that lights behind the eyes of an enthusiastic beginner.

PHILOSOPHY

God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players (i.e., everybody) to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

I love being a novice. Juggling, guitar, writing ... I don't consider myself outrageously skilled at any of those skills, but I love riding the sine wave of improving myself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have shaken hands with a woman who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. I have seen the sun set behind the Coliseum. During my first year of teaching, one of my high school students said the magical phrase that tempts every teacher to enter the profession: "You changed my life."
