About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To assimilate into America and become successfully independent

ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is D'ken. I moved here to America from the Philippines on Feb 2007. I am currently studying at the local Junior College until I get to transfer into an art school. I'm recently rediscovering my love for adventure and I'm trying to balance that with getting a stable foundation for independence.

I'm an art student. My big goal is to become a great graphic designer. I think that graphic design is the perfect marriage of my two ambitions: art and communication. I love art and i love story. Plus, I think that becoming a great graphic designer will bring me out of my shell and force me to experience the world.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in having a personal mission statement. Here's mine:

To passionately and courageously live an authentic and well-rounded life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was thirteen, I camped out on a helicopter pad for a year and a half. I was volunteering in a hospital my grandmother ran and part of the work was going on medical missions to different cities to teach people about holistic health. I'd travel with this American missionary named Seth and we'd crash on the couches of our friends, my grandmother's friends, and perhaps people we knew from church. It was one of the most exciting and fulfilling adventures I had in my life.

Recently, I took a road trip to LA with two friends and we crashed a family friend's place for a week. It was SO much fun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Eating freshly cooked rice topped with tuna adobo on top of banana leaves with 10 other people using only our hands. It was the best meal I have ever had.
