About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary." -Cecil Beaton 1904-1980

ABOUT ME

I grew up on the banks of Resurrection Bay in Seward, Alaska. I love to swim, ski, hunt, fish, and read. Currently, I am in the process of completing my PhD with the University of Alaska and moving to Colorado. My wife and I are very much looking forward to living in Colorado and traveling the US.

PHILOSOPHY

There are good people everywhere . .

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would consider myself and intermediate couchsurfer. My recent adventures include driving between Alaska and Alabama. I have a lot of friends who have hosted people over the years and I love the spirit of the project. My wife and I are currently in the process of searching for a place to rent in the greater Denver area and look forward to hosting couchsurfers this winter!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was 18 when I first started couchsurfing. I lived an entire winter on a futon couch in the Nordic Center at Snowqualmie Pass. Worked as a ski instructor, learned to telemark & travel! More recently, I drove my Jeep from Alaska to Alabama and had the opportunity to couchsurf in Edmonton, AB. Additionally, I was laid over in Seattle, WA for a weekend and couchsurfed for a night.

Interests

Reading, skiing, running, biking, yoga, curling, and playing guitar. I also dig nutrition and chemistry and look forward to learning about foods that may protect people from developing diabetes. Nerd to the core. More recently, I have developed a keen interest in the history of minning and look forward to learning about the natural history of Colorado.

Music, Movies, and Books

First I love the variety of internet music sites: pandora and songza are my favorites. I tend to prefer funk over rock and when I am working I can love anything without lyrics. When I pick out specific artist to listen to . . it will probably be either Yonder Mountain String Band, Goldfish, Kaskade and Black Keys.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drove from Alaska to Alabama in the month of January!

Teach, Learn, Share

I like people who are present and self-aware. Here-now types. Individuals that wake up each day and look around and enjoy the small things.
