CURRENT MISSION

I am interested in too many things to do all at once, so right now I am sorting out what I really want to devote myself to over the next few years. At the moment, I'm trying to focus my energy on writing.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Arkansas, a state that Midwesterners call the South and Southerners call the Midwest. After graduating high school, I went to college at the University of Georgia, graduated from there, went to New Zealand on a Fulbright grant, and then spent a few months traveling SE Asia in the beginning of 2014.

My formal education has mostly been in the environmental sciences so far but I'm not sure if I am staying in that area . . . I am interested in writing, business, working with people, medicine--especially the nervous system. Finally learning to program after years of avoiding it.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I signed up a while ago but am only just starting to get into the couchsurfing community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted one couchsurfer for a week at my apartment in Athens, GA, and I've crashed for 2 1/2 weeks on another couchsurfer's couch in Lyon, France . . . but I was friends with both those people already so I don't think that counts.

兴趣

I very much like reading and writing, good discussions, walking around new places and discovering surprise moments. If I don't get physical activity or sports for several days in a row, I get very antsy--I love playing sports of all kinds.

Currently reading (24 April 2014): Runaway, a collection of short stories by Alice Munroe. Some favorites from what I've read recently: The Quiet American, Yellow Dog, The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, White Noise.

Two most recent movies I saw were Magic Mike and Inside Llewyn Davis; both were great in their own way. Wes Anderson and the Coen Brothers are my favorite go-to directors.

Music: All sorts, like most people. Big fan of hip-hop J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, The Black Album, Big Boi. Other things I've been listening to lately: Chet Faker, Youth Lagoon, Snowmine, Purity Ring . . .

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I spent December of 2011 traveling around Iceland with 2 (and later 3) of my best friends. The country was like nothing I had ever experienced before and that trip continues to influence me in so many ways, every day.
