About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling now as much as I can, while I still can. Retired, sold my house and after living in Thailand for seven months, and Costa Rica for 15 months we went back to Texas to work for 4 years, including pandemic years. Went back to work as an elementary school teacher - hardest thing I have every done!
This year I went on a 5 month Asia journey with my husband. We spent Jan. and Feb in Bangkok to visit with friends we met the last time here and because we love Thailand. And visited 5 more Asian countries over 3 months. Now I am on a 5 month solo African journey from S. Africa to Kenya. and hope to CS a lot because it is so nice to make a new friend somewhere you have not been before, and share their culture.

ABOUT ME

I'm older than most couchsurfers but still love adventure and excitment. Enjoy younger people and past times most people my age don't, but also enjoy folks older than me if they still realize how lucky they are to be alive.

PHILOSOPHY

I am very simple. Enjoy your time here and help others to do the same. Appreciate the overwhelming splendor of the natural world and try not to mess it up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couch surfed in Europe several years ago and loved it. Then two summers in Maine, Colorado and New Mexico were also great. Last surf was with a lovely family in Spain which I visited again 2 years later. I love getting off the tourist track and connecting with people. I have met the coolest, kindest and most interesting people surfing and hosting. Unfortunately I lived in a place that was kind of off the beaten track and got almost no requests but I finally hosted a few surfers and it was grand. After living abroad a while, we came back to the U.S. and our own place closer to the city where were were able to host more surfers and it was great fun.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fantastic time surfing and hosting. Not one negative experience!

Interests

Travel, scuba, wildlife watching, photography, boardgames, science, gardening, diversity of culture, ethnic foods, vegan and regular cooking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, bird watching, conversation. Gave up on trying to learn to para glide, mostly due to cost but may try again some day. Latest self development was belly dancing lessons. It is harder than it looks and I kinda suck at it so don't ask for demo.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love, love, love the movies, especially good comedy but really any good ones (except horror). Not much of an intellectual reader of books (but research anything and everything of interest on the net). Last enjoyed George R.R. Martin's series "A Song of Ice and Fire". Now reading the Outlander series and The Hollows series. Like all kinds of music, but not a great passion of mine. Recently expanded my mind to discover that opera is incredibly beautiful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can not limit to one thing. Survived my wild youth, a monkey attack and elephant charge. 3 days at Woodstock. Angkor Wat. Raised 2 kids that were better than I deserved and scuba diving with a whale shark.

Teach, Learn, Share

My husband, being a chef, is the interesting one. But I can cook some great Thai food and teach you some really fun new board games. I love to share travel stories and have been to more than 30 countries so I have quite a few, but would rather hear yours.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a good listener. My sense of humor and my unbridled enthusiasm for so many things.
