Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To explore the Northeast and learn a thing or two.
ABOUT ME
I really, really love food. I think food is why I travel, honestly -- I rarely buy souvenirs on trips, but when I cook things I learned how to make years ago, in kitchens far far away, each dish is accompanied by rich sense memories and great stories. I just spent two years living in St. Louis for a graduate program and am feeling the need to wander a while; going to WWOOF around the Northeast this fall and meet some rad people and learn some new things.
PHILOSOPHY
Stay curious and be kind.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've never had my own profile, but have traveled with friends who did. Have received such generosity through this site -- I love the way it shatters the facades erected by the tourism industry that make it so hard to get to know a place. CS circumvents those, reveals the real life lived.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My sister and I had the best, most patient CS guides in Greece; Drakoulis and Vasso led us past the tourist traps and made sure we got to see the heart of each place. Have also met good friends through CS meetups -- one of whom just bought me dinner last week!
Interests
Sandwiches and strong coffee, things hidden inside other things, old cemeteries, hot soup on a cold day, books on loan from people I love.

Music, Movies, and Books
Just finished To After That by Renee Gladman; in the middle of Kathryn Davis's Labrador. Have been listening to Jai Paul on long bike rides. Not a huge movie fiend but I did just force my family to watch a docu about Pina Bausch that blew my mind -- I don't know the first thing about modern dance, and that was a stunning introduction!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Oh man -- I've been unreasonably lucky in the Amazing Things department. Swimming in Nica's volcanic crater lakes? Watching as the sunset illuminates sculptural, labyrinthine Oia? Leaning precariously over the cliffs of Moher? Pick one; they all left me humbled and inflamed, hungry for further movement.
Teach, Learn, Share
Everyone thinks they make a good sandwich, but I'll show you some sauce/slaw combinations that'll bring yours to a whole new stratosphere :)
Frankly I think I have more to learn than teach, so all you furniture makers and bike mechanics: get at me.
