ABOUT ME

We are on CouchSurfing as a couple : Marie-Helene and Dom. We are a "one and half generation" couple, as we are 16 yrs apart, but feel so close! Marie-Helene has the energy, Dom has the... wisdom! Well, at least, he's got more experience, and getting closer to wisdom each day!!
Marie-Helene has caught the travel bug during her high-school exchange program to Canada (SK)! I (Marie-Helene) always has an idea or something popping out of her head! And she asks too many questions!
We have our house in Lans en Vercors, close to Grenoble, which is a very nice natural place, great for skiing in the winter (cross country mostly, but also alpine), hiking, climbing, etc. But we now live in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, for a few years. So we go on hosting here!
We very much like to travel, and I'm particularly curious about the world and people. We're not always (especially Dom!) the most talkative people, but it doesn't mean we don't enjoy presence of others!
We are very sports-oriented and lead a pretty healthy way of life. We practice different sports (see "interests" below) and eat fresh veggies & fruits all the time. Our food is very simple, and we like it a lot. Some people would think it's dull! We like doing our sports (rock climbing, skiing, swimming, etc) together, but also enjoy doing it alone or with friends. We definitely believe there's a life to be lived on our own too, to build a nice future together!
We have a pretty "quiet" and simple life, don't party or go out a lot, but still like a good party with friends, once in a while (not in clubs), and going to the restaurant.

PHILOSOPHY

We just want to enjoy life, relationships between people, be curious about the world, do what we can to make it a better place.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're like to host people, and to discover the experience of being invited to a new place!
Often now, unfortunately, we don't have enough time to "socialize" with our host, but we can still help with the couch!
We host more than got hosted!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For the moment, we don't have a big couch experience, but we experienced this way of travelling, (being hosted by friends of friends, and hosting friends of friends, some of whom actually became friends too!) and this is the way to go!

Interests

We do quite a bit of sports, like rockclimbing (or in the gym in the winter), swimming (& freediving and scuba diving), cross country skiing (skating, like in biathlon) and ski touring (going up walking on the skis, and skiing down), etc. Some occasional biking, walking (when there's a good reason to!). I really like biking around cities to visit, even better than walking!
We also like kayaking on the sea (and I'd love to visit Venezia by kayaking!), go to isolated places, swim, and come back!
We also stretch as much as we can, after sport, or at the end of the day. It feels soooo good! We like to associate this to yoga postures sometimes, feel different things.
I mostly like being outside, breath the good air, feel the sun.
We also enjoy travelling when we can, eventhough Dom is less of a touristic soul than I : he needs another reason to travel than just "visiting". So we also discover a bit with the sports goal : swimming along the shores, learning to surf, diving, etc.
We are rather "organic", actually very. In terms of food. We are not in favor of mere consumerism, but still live with it.
Marie-Helene likes to go to the movies, only in original versions.

Music, Movies, and Books

Films : We like detective movies (but not the Hollywood blockbusters), the Hong Kong detective movies too, crazy movies (Coen brother, Kusturica, etc), and many differents styles I guess, but not too contemplative ones. Like Clint Eastwood a lot (especially Marie-Hélène!). Dom got "trapped" in DVD Series, he's going way to fast for me to keep track with him. He says it's to improve his English!! He's soon going to be an expert too!! I really liked "Six Feet Under". Other than that, we really don't like watching TV, and almost never watch programs on it. Some documentaries once in a while.

Music: We like very different styles, such as rap (with thoughtfull lyrics, let's say), jazzy styles (classic & modern), latino styles : in general, I would say we like the mixes, not too much of just one; and I like hearing the melody & the instruments in the music. Like very much Mano Negra, Manu Chao, Mano Solo, Grand Corps Malade, Oxmo Puccino, Renaud, Gainsbourg, IAM, Orishas, etc.
Very open to listen to new / different ones as our musical culture is not huge!

Books; we read more "modern" novels, Dom is a bit more into detective ones, I'm more into, well, anything that sounds good. I love going to the bookshop, not really knowing what to buy, browse through, and choose up to the mood! I could spend full days there, eventhough we're not big readers.
We also like very much "Bandes dessinées" : comic book (but I still don't understand why it's called "comic"...). Enki Bilal, we really like the style, even if it's reeaally pessimistic.

Teach, Learn, Share

We like sharing our trip experiences, learn from others. Interested in human psychology and environmental protection. Marie-Hélène likes to share "good practices" on ecology, and to learn more!If we can, we like to share what we know on our sports and body health.
