Hi there. I'm Don and from Cork, Ireland and living here in Halifax, Nova Scotia for around 8 years. I've travelled a lot in my life and have lived in 6 countries and 10 cities. I am travelling home on May 31st and have a stopover in St Johns, Newfoundland for a couple days. Hoping to find somewhere to stay.

Edit: 22nd May: This site is an absolute joke. Maybe its just that im new to it and naiive but my god this place is not what I thought it was supposed to be which I thought was human beings trying to help out fellow human beings and pass it on. Maybe it was that way when it started and just got too big. I totally understand that im a lone male traveller and people have to be careful and I have no problem with women declining requests due to the possible risks but im getting declined by bloody everybody. Male, females, couples etc... I'm looking at myself in the mirror trying to figure out do I look like an Axe Murderer or something!!!

Is this place mostly just a bunch of guys looking to get laid in return for a place to stay or something? Case in point. I sent 5 requests to 5 males. All declined. I set up a fake profile using my girlfriends pic with her permission and sent requests to the same 5 males. All accepted!! F**k this place. I'd actually rather spend 50 bucks on a hostel instead.

Not trying to tar everyone on here with the same brush. I'm sure there are some good decent people who use this site with the intention of kindness and helping out people and making friends but these people seem to be lost in a big sea of timewasters now that this site has gotten too big and well known for its own good. I'm just having a go at this site by the way. Not St Johns or Newfoundland in general. I deal with a lot of Newfies in my work and they are the friendliest and most salt of the earth people ive ever met.
