À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

get off the grid for a while

ABOUT ME

I like to play outside, and I'm trying to make it a bigger priority. I like to talk and write. I'm a godless liberal. I quit my job, but I'm getting bored without one, so I'm starting to look for something new again.

I spent the last three years working as a court-appointed criminal defense attorney. That means if broke people got in trouble with the law, I tried to help them. Most times, the law doesn't come after people who CAN afford a lawyer. So I was busy, but I learned a lot. Got burnt-out and took a break.

PHILOSOPHY

Value-judgments (positives and negatives) seek to oversimplify reality. Life is rich and interesting. I want to participate in addition to watching and listening, so I can get involved in some intense experiences, even if they're not easily categorized as "good" or "bad" ones.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couchsurfring, so I haven't hosted anyone yet, or crashed on anyone's couch (through the use of this website), but I think it's a great idea and I want to do both.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I guess I've had or been a surprise guest a few times, but usually, I end up staying with (or hosting) people I've already known a while.

Centres d'intérêt

cycling (mountain, road, commuting, wrenching), ski and snowboard (Nordic and Tele too), fly-fishing, live music, art, cooking, guitar, motorcycles, books (mostly depressing novels, but some other lit as well).

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

music -lots of stuff: indie rock, bluegrass and folk, some hip-hop and electronic stuff too, British stuff, anything really good. books: right now I'm reading some Phillip Roth, Edward Abbey, and (re-reading) some short stories by Hemingway (leftover from freshman lit class, I think). I like the Vonnegut books I've read, and usually consider Heller's Catch-22 one of my all-time favorites (of course, I read that a very long time ago). Movies: as long as a movie isn't trying to be something it's not, I usually enjoy it. I'm a fan of Back to the Future (the first one), Donnie Darko, Inglorious Basterds, Stranger Than Fiction, and Punch-Drunk Love, to name a few.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I almost drowned scuba diving in Cozumel. I like to tell that story in person.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can still speak Spanish quite well. I could tell you more than you want to know about the criminal justice system in Western Colorado, and I can probably fix your bike (the one that doesn't have an internal-combustion engine). I could use some guitar lessons, if you're feeling charitable.

Pays que j'ai visités

Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Russian Federation, Sweden, United Kingdom

Pays dans lesquels j'ai vécu

Finland, Mexico, Spain, United States
