About Me

It's easier to say what I'd like to be than what I am :) How you will see me will depend on many things, also on who you are, for sure. Below you'll find some info though:

I'm a mix of many opposite qualities. Sensitive and sensible; dreamer and realist; organised and chaotic; melancholic and happy; introvert and extrovert; simple and complex ;) and so on and so forth... But aren't we all like that, to some extent?

I think the world's TOO interesting... I want to see as much as possible, but also -more importantly - get to know a lot of people, and share something with them. Probably that's why I'm a teacher. However, teaching is only my job: personally I'd like to LEARN more about the world and about myself. And especially this last thing is like a never-ending, challenging journey.

My philosophy or mission: To try to understand as much as possible, at least about about the meaningful things. To become a better person, in many ways. To share. And to live more consciously.

Mottoes/quotes? Some obvious ones, Confucius perhaps:
Do unto others what you want done unto you.
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

IMPORTANT!!! especially for some single CouchSurfers who might be looking for more than friendship:
I live with my boyfriend Michał. So, if you want to stay with me, keep in mind that you will be staying with him too ;) :) Here is his profile (which hasn't been updated for a while): www.couchsurfing.org/people/buzzastral/
We should have a "pair profile" like many people do, but for the time being it seems too much work to start one ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

...because it is such a beautiful idea!!!

I have been hosted around 20 times so far - the best way of travelling and meeting people! In Rome, where I lived for a year, I was an active memeber of the CS Roma group, meeting new people all the time and doing things with them (parties, walks, visiting museums, going to concerts together...). It was one of the pillars of my Roman life! After coming back to Poland I finally started hosting and I really enjoy it, usually it's sheer pleasure. Sometimes when I can't leave Warsaw for a longer period of time, hosting is a perfect substitute of travelling!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE: I love it. Surfing, hosting, CS events, meeting people... Can't imagine my life without it now.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: I have a favourite one (or 2) for each letter of the alphabet. American Beauty (and A.I.), Billy Eliott (and Before Sunrise), Ciudade de Deus/City of God (and Chunking Express), Double Vie de Veronique, Empire of the Sun (and E.T.), Fabouleux Destins d'Amelie Poulain (and Fiddler on the Roof), GhostDog, Hable Con Ella (and Hair), ..., ... see I'm not lying? There are also films that start with numbers: Fellini's 8 1/2, Wong Kar Wai's 2046... Ah, and even if you can't see it above, I'm mostly crazy about European films, and low-budget ones. And documentaries: they're often fascinating and eye-opening.
PS Remember the crazy Oscars 2016/17? I loved both Moonlight LaLaLand :)))
-------------------------
MUSIC: pretty much the same as with the films - a detailed list would be soooo long... Mostly:the Beatles, indie (Editors, The National and many more), folk, alternative rock (Radiohead!), singer/songwriter, ethnic (gypsy, Arabic, Jewish, African), reggae, some film music (Rota, Tiersen), swinging jazz, street orchestras, old classy soul/r'n'b (Motown!) and classical... I'm definitely keen on discovering new music
-------------------------
BOOKS: I love them more and more each day. And I'm overwhelmed by how much there is to read, I'll never manage to tick off even half of the things of my "to read" list...
So, here, a sample of my taste:

children's timeless classics (Tove Jansson, Astrid Lindgren, Pinocchio, Little Prince, Alice in Wonderland, J.Ch.Andersen and many more)

Polish (second world) war literature
& Polish 20th century poetry (Milosz, Szymborska, Herbert, and many more - please ask me for more names if you're into poetry, they're worth discovering!)

artistic / social-psychological comic books

I.B. Singer
Virginia Woolf
Margaret Atwood
A. Solzhenitzyn, M.Bulgakov
George Orwell
Italo Calvino, Cesare Pavese
G. Garcia Marquez
Amos Oz
Etgar Keret
Olga Tokarczuk
and many more

(plus: many new discoveries of mine which you're not very likely to know... and any good short stories! that's my favourite literary form)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many... OK, something funny first: Once I met a walking DONUT (!) in one of the busiest streets of Warsaw. I smiled. He stopped and gave me a (sweet) hug. True story!

Something that I've done: travelled around Sicily, backpacking on my owny own (despite some silly warnings), and loved it.

Some beautiful things that I've seen: Jerusalem; a coral reef; a starry night over a desert, the Northern Lights in Norway

There are many amazing stories that I can tell you. You might even get tired of them after some time!

And I'm amazed by how many places there still are for me to travel to... after all my efforts:

What I Can Share with Hosts

I won't say I'll cook something Polish for them, as preparing best Polish dishes takes awfully long time ;) But for sure I can share some interesting stories and whatever knowledge that I have that can be useful to my hosts.
