About Me

Hi! I'm Doug! I'm a student at Stanford University, in California, USA, but I grew up in the high mountains of Colorado. Playing music makes me happy! I believe the natural world helps connect us to others and to ourselves. I want to help create a better world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've got a couple weeks to travel NZ before I head to Raglan to research the movement of plastic waste in the Pacific. There's no better way to learn about a place than to meet the people who call it home!

I can never have enough of two things: instruments, and outdoor activities.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've recently become enamored with what one could call "campfire songs." I think the simple can often be more powerful than the complex in music, as it eases connection and communication. This sort of music can capture such strong feelings, and can be played and shared so easily. I really love that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a day with no wind, I was eating lunch in a forest. I was staring at a large, but otherwise entirely unremarkable tree, when, for no apparent reason, it fell over. It occurs to me that this must happen quite often, yet I have never met another who has shared this experience.
