About Me

Aussie travelling the states looking for a place to crash for a few nights. Easy going, enjoy the outdoors, recently finished an engineering degree

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So I've just finished my undergrad (in mechanical engineering) back home in Sydney and am currently just on holiday around the states. I've been to North Carolina, California and I'm now in Colorado (yes I know the order and some of those locations is unusual haha). And I've mostly been catching up with friends, but rather than prey on their hospitality for too long; and also to meet other new cool people; I've ventured onto couch surfing in a bid to do this on a low budget.

Interests

Ultimate (frisbee) and the associated social life pretty much takes up my entire life outside of work/study. It's a lot of fun and the inclusivity of the people who play are what really made me take to it so quickly and strongly.
Looking forward at the next chapter of my life now that my undergrad is finished I'm looking at finding a job in either renewable energy, transport (specifically rail), or some sort of startup idea. Ideally I'd love to move to the states in 2017 to play ultimate so I'm trying to figure out how to work full time in the meantime to be able to afford to do that. Any help with the idea is more than welcome.

Music, Movies, and Books

Like reading and watching movies. My tastes are pretty broad and I like to think I'm open minded about most things. Classically though I enjoy a good fiction/fantasy read though and on the movie front anything from rom coms to action movies and sci-fi's with most of everything in between being fine. Not a horror fan; thriller is acceptable, but it's not a go-to for me.
Musically I honestly don't mind what's playing. I'll admit I'm not a big country/western fan, but a lot of that is probably upbringing than anything else. I don't really follow anyone and while I'm not against going to live gigs and concerts I don't make much of a habit of it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So in 2015 I had the opportunity and honour to play for the Australian U23 Ultimate (Frisbee) mixed team, called the Bluebottles (it's a type of jellyfish), in the U23 World Championships in London. Our team spent a few weeks bonding and playing with each other in Dublin and Scotland before rocking up to the tournament and taking it all the way to the finals only to come second to a very skilled and highly spirited US team. It's actually up on YouTube and I can dig up the link if you're really interested.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I consider myself a pretty decent home cook so I'm more than happy to cook dinner a night or two depending on how long my stay is. I'm fine cooking for dietary requirements if that's something important for you as well, assuming a heads up is given.
Obviously, there's a bit of Australian culture and just general differences between the US and back home that I expect you might find interesting to hear about. For instance it's super bizarre to me that you can pick up beer at a pharmacy, and also just how many stop signs you use in odd places haha.
And lastly, depending on how into sport you are I'm happy to show you how to throw a frisbee backhand/forehand; these are the two main methods of throwing and can look pretty awesome when you practice it enough :)
