People say I'm intelligent and have a quick wit, lots of fun to be around and a good conversationalist. The Boy Scout Law applies..."Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous..." An excellent cook!!! Faithful friend, and proud father of a 30 year old son that I am willing to brag about to the point of embarrassment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS was recommended to me by son who has traveled throughout the world with it. I've surfed only a couple times in connection with my move from Iowa to California and would now like to start surfing more to meet people throughout this great state!

Interests

I have an extremely wide variety of interests and enjoy traveling. I have been prospecting for gold near the Continental Divide in the Rockies, staying in a primitive camp far off the beaten path.

I had a large collection of world globes but gave most of them away to friends. For many years, I had dreamed of getting a sailboat to sail around the world. I started collecting globes when I realized that it is probably the only way left for me to see the world. As a result, I possess a wealth of worthless trivia about world globes and their history.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm usually content to wait to watch a movie until it is widely available on DVD, and don't see many many movies in the theatre. My favorite actor is Robert DeNiro.

I enjoy music and have a very broad knowledge of many musical genres, especially rock and roll, but I'm not too keen on today's country.

Ken Follett is my favorite author. I recommend reading his book "Pillars of the Earth" if you haven't already.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I really enjoy live theatre and have founded a community theatre group, directing a play at an historic house in Carlisle, IA. I once performed as an actor in the world premier of "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" on the largest community theatre stage in Des Moines.

I would love to learn how to be real sailor!

I have a studied a variety of biographies, and know a bit more than the average high school student about people such as Gandhi, Tolstoy, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and some others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy cooking very flavorful meals. (it's more fun to cook when others can enjoy it).
