About Me

CURRENT MISSION

i want to know everywhere.

ABOUT ME

i was once asked in an interview what the color of my brain is, and i replied yellow. i conjured the reason that it supposedly indicated my hunger for knowledge, but it turned out to be an apt response. i want to know a lot about a lot of things, and most of that feeds into my unwieldy tendency toward wanderlust. i am a citizen of the earth and thus want to soak up all it has to offer, and it's only made better by learning from the perspective of those who already know it so well.

PHILOSOPHY

"if we only live once, why do we keep doing the same shit? YALA: you always live again."

Music, Movies, and Books

throw anything at me and i'll try it at least once.

books: yep yep, harry potter totally always.
t.s. eliot, gogol's short stories, devil in the white city, blue boy, the namesake, travel literature like in a sunburned country and the caliph's house, der besuch der alten dame (the visit), die verwandlung (the metamorphosis), bossypants, a little agatha christie here and there + other whodunnits.
currently reading solzhenitsyn; i wanna read as many russian writers as possible but i'm way behind because time.

music: indie, alternative rock / pop / hip-hop, down tempo, ambient, psychedelic, electronica, folktronica, trip-hop, euro pop, dub step, hindi, arabic, jazz, lounge, classical, even gregorian chants (dass right), and some top 40 junk.
the most recently played stuff on my i-tunes: burial, andy stott, portishead, bat for lashes, fever ray / the knife, atoms for peace (twas a looooong winter..), nina simone, aaliyah, a.r. rahman, anoushka shankar, julianna barwick, interpol, austra, björk, ace of base, buddha-bar, eartha kitt, (old school) madonna, chet baker.
recently started a vinyl obsession and i'm 30 LPs deep and broke from it but totally satisfied.

movies: nothing beats a well-made drama -- one that makes you marvel or cry or just FEEL something and let's you escape reality for a bit.
i love the absolute pants out of foreign-language films and am trying to watch more.
tilda swinton is changing my life right now. also, a big fan of tarantino, von trier, burton, fincher, etc.
i still say the movie theater-going experience is one of the few simple pleasures of life (you know, if you're not broke and such -- which is why free screenings are the best damn things of ever!).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i heard the inimitable silence of the sahara desert at night when i visited morocco. it's like no other silence, especially while living in a bustling city.

Teach, Learn, Share

i would love to share my stories. there's nothing better than a good story, and we never know what may be fruitful for others hearing them. i also want to hear yours.
