About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have been trying to get out and see the world for several years now, and keep shooting myself in the foot! It WILL happen though, and until then, I would love to host some travelers to this part of the world/country.

ABOUT ME

50 years old, frustrated writer who is stuck working a 'real' job until such time as I can begin my 'adventure of a lifetime' - my Earthwalk. More on that later, but in the meantime, I have a decent little one-bedroom apartment in Medway, Massachusetts, USA, and would be delighted to host some travelers between now and when I begin my own.

PHILOSOPHY

"There comes a time in every life when we know what we should have done, and that it's almost too late to do it." The idea that our purpose in life is to get an education, obtain a job, attach ourself to another person for life, and produce offspring is completely foreign to me. While that is all well and good for many, it simply holds no attraction for me. I have absolutely NO IDEA what my purpose in life is, so I default to letting it all be self-determining. My Earthwalking journey is something that has tugged at me ever since I can remember, and hopefully, my Destiny is out there, somewhere, and I will know it when I find it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have a place with a couch, about an hour from the history-laden city of Boston, Massachusett, and willing to host travelers to this area. There is a train that runs between Boston and my area of the suburbs - it costs 8 or 9 dollars each way, and I am happy to pick up and drop off my guests at the station as they go in and out of the city. I can also provide further transportation at times if the train is not a convenient option.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have made a few small-scale forays in the last few years to sort of 'test the waters,' and have been amazed at the number of positive experiences that I have had. Many people think that my sort of journey simply can't be done in this day and age, and I enjoy proving that theory wrong over and over again!

Interests

Music is a passion, as are movies, and to some extent, sports, although that love has been tempered in recent years due to the business aspect and the drug/steroid scandals. I consider myself a frustrated writer, and am hoping to eventually remove the 'frustrated' part...This winter's goal is to get back to doing a LOT of writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Pulp Fiction, American Beauty, Dangerous Liasons, Ace Ventura, Crash, Lost In Translation, Johnny Dangerously, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, many more to come....

Music: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, The Who, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Linkin Park,
so many, many others....

Books: Kerouac, Hunter S. Thompson, Thoreau, William Burroughs, many biographies. Ashamed that my reading has been so limited, too often superceded by a stream of short-attention-span dreck like magazines, TV shows, and other intellectually-lazy pursuits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Was a featured guest on the Howard Stern radio show, and the story of how I got there is a good one, as is the story of what happened as a result of my appearance.

I also lived on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for 4 years as a youngster (ages 4 1/2 to 9)....My dad's job required that we live on Kwajalein while he tested defense radar, and it was a formative experience in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not to sound self-important, but I have experienced a LOT of different things in my life, and have a never-ending well of stories to share. Many are funny, and many are hard to tell, as well as hard to hear, but they have all shaped who I am. On the other hand, for a reasonably intelligent, engaged guy, I am often horrified at the limits of my knowledge and experience, and am always looking to learn something from anyone I meet and anything I do.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Saint Lucia, Virgin Islands, U.S.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Marshall Islands, United States
